Cordelia was a vain and snobby cheerleader who constantly berated the Scoobies but eventually became a reluctant member of their group. She and Xander had a bizarre relationship, based entirely on lust rather than mutual respect, until she caught him kissing Willow (Lover’s Walk). She then became even bitchier to the Scoobies, but remained in their group to be close to Wesley, the new Watcher of Buffy and Faith, whom she had a crush on. She and Wesley eventually kissed but discovered that they had no kind of sexual chemistry at all (Graduation Day (Part 1)). Cordy helped her classmates to fight the Mayor, before leaving for L.A. for fame and fortune. There, Cordy met Angel at a Hollywood party, and pretended that her career was really taking off. In fact, she was living in a run-down apartment and was nearly broke. Cordelia was rescued by Angel and Doyle from a vampire, and joined them to form Angel Investigations, an agency dedicated to helping people, located by Doyle’s visions. With her aim still to become a famous actress, Cordelia became the agency’s office manager. Her budding romance with Doyle ended with his sudden, heroic death. Before dying, Doyle transferred his visions to her with a passionate kiss, which made her become an integral part of Angel’s group. The visions became increasingly intense, and began to physically damage Cordelia’s brain. She secretly took powerful painkillers and underwent CAT scans that indicated the slow deterioration of her brain tissues. But when presented with the opportunity to be rid of her visions, and live her life as though she had never met Angel, Cordelia decided to keep them and take the alternative option - becoming part-demon. Cordelia realised that her visions made her what she was, and that they had helped her to become more sensitive to others. Cordelia’s visions were now no longer painful, and she had the skill to examine them in more depth than previously, thus becoming even more useful. Unbeknownst to everyone, it also set in motion a major chain of events — in which an evil power was able to take control of her body. On her way to reveal her love for Angel, Cordelia was met by her guide, Skip, who told her that she was ready to ascend to a higher plane to do more good. Later, Cordelia returned to Earth from the higher plane with no memory of who she, or her friends were. Angel hid the truth from Cordelia, afraid it would be too much for her to handle. Cordelia was horrified when she discovered that her friends had been hiding their demon-hunting ways from her, and went to stay with Connor, Angel’s teenage son. Connor fell in love with Cordelia, who felt safe with him, but refused to let their relationship progress until she rediscovered her memories. A spell by Lorne made Cordy’s memories come flooding back, but it also awoke in her a dark force, later to be known as Jasmine, who began to take over her body and consciousness. Cordelia’s behaviour became increasingly erratic as Jasmine took hold, and she eventually slept with Connor. Cordelia became pregnant, creating a separate body for Jasmine, who was essentially giving birth to itself. While pregnant, Cordelia killed several key figures, including Lilah, and stole Angel’s soul, leaving him as evil vampire Angelus. Meanwhile, she isolated Connor from Angel’s team, and made him distrust them. Angel and his friends eventually discovered that Cordelia was now evil and interrogated Skip, who revealed Jasmine’s plan. He said that all the events of the last eight years had been carefully put into place, to ensure that Jasmine was born. Skip also said that Jasmine could not be removed from Cordelia without killing her or putting her into a permanent, comatose state. Before Angel could kill the woman he loved, Cordelia performed a ritual with Connor’s help to bring Jasmine out and afterwards, Cordelia fell into a coma. After Angel joined Wolfram & Hart, Cordelia was transferred to their hospital. She awoke and helped to put Angel get back on track. He later discovered that this Cordelia was simply an astral projection facilitated by the Powers that Be, who owed her a favour for everything she she had been through. After tenderly kissing Angel and giving him a vision that pointed him in the direction of the real players in the upcoming apocalypse, it was discovered that Cordelia had died in her sleep, never having woken. Cordy became evil in season 4 of Angel and was the the Beast’s master. She slept with Angel’s son Connor and became pregant.
She killed Lilah (Wesley’s some time lover and evil Wolfram & Hart lawyer, threw a knife at Willow’s head when Willow realised that she could free Angel’s soul and persuaded Connor to kill Angel (Faith stopped him).
She was actually pregnant with Jasmine, a higher being who made everyone on earth happy and peaceful, which may sound nice but she also had a tendency to feast on humans.
Angel found out that the only way to stop Jasmine from being born was to chop Cordy’s head off but when he finally went to do it, it was too late and Jasmine was born.
Cordy went into the coma when Jasmine was born.
In You’re Welcome the Powers That Be gave Cordy one last vision to help set Angel and at the end of the episode Cordy and Angel kissed and Cordy passed on a one time only deal with the visions and then the hospital called Angel to say that Cordy was dead. When Angel turned round to see Cordy she was gone.
Sad episode.

Does Cordelia ever come back?
September 1st, 2005 at 3:26 am
To Buffy, not after she left the show is season 3. She ‘comes back’ to Angel for one episode after she was in the coma.
September 1st, 2005 at 9:23 am
Cordelia and Tara are the only regular characters who didn’t come back after they left the show.
November 7th, 2005 at 1:04 am
Was Cordelia ever mentioned after she left Buffy? Everyone else was…Oz, Joyce, Jenny, Riley and Angel but did anyone ever talk about Cordelia again?
Well, Tara didn’t come back because she died. But Harmony never came back to Buffy. But she was only a recurring character.
November 7th, 2005 at 1:27 am
Cordelia was mentioned briefly in “Pangs” and “Family,” but I think that those were the only two times that she was mentioned.
November 7th, 2005 at 3:26 am
I just wanted to mention that some people may not of heard the mention of Cordelia in “Pangs” because for some reason FX edits that scene out when they show the episode (or at least they did in the past.) However, that scene (with Willow and Angel in the Expresso Pump) is supposed to be there, and is there on the DVD. Everyone may already know this, but I just thought I should mention it just in case.
November 7th, 2005 at 5:14 am
What is it they say about her in Pangs?
Realizing the impracticality of it, I still wish that when Cordelia kissed Angel before leaving, she had passed on her powers (her visions) like Doyle did before he died. I think it would have been a beautiful referance to the first season-which would have been nice considering Angel was actually the only person to appear in each episode, each season, and the show had transformed so much from when it started out.
November 7th, 2005 at 5:20 am
Not that it matters so much, but there is also a mention of Cordelia in “Living Conditions,” when Willow states that Buffy is being “Cordeliaesque.”
November 7th, 2005 at 5:23 am
Oh, and to Smash: In Pangs, Willow says to Angel, “Is Cordelia really working for you, ‘cause that’s gotta be an experience. Of all the people you could have hired…” At least I think that I have this quoted correctly.

Smash
Cordelia did pass on the visions to Angel when she kissed him.
It was a one off shot that meant Angel got the vision of Black Thorn which started the series of events for Angel to take them down.
This is dialogue from Power Play:
Spike: When did this all start?
Angel: Two months ago. With a kiss.
We then see a flashback to Angel and Cordy kissing and we see the blue light pass from Cordy to Angel.
Angel: Though it didn’t hit me till later that night.
We then see a clip of Angel getting woken up with a vision of the Black Thorn symbol and the apocalypse.
Wesley: Cordelia gave you her visions?
Angel: One-shot deal. She put me on the path, showed me where the real powers
are. But I couldn’t see who they were. Then, when Fred died, I wasn’t
gonna let that be another random horrible event in another random
horrible world. So I decided to use it, to make her death matter. And it worked. I’m in. I’ve seen the faces of evil. I know who the real powers in the apocalypse are.

Of the seven seasons of Buffy and the five of Angel, I think most would agree that Season 4 of Angel (particularly the whole Jasmine arc) was the true low point of the entire “Buffyverse”. Season five of Angel showed a return to form, particularly the episode in which Angel is transformed into a muppet.
…and, yes, this gratuitous comment was meant to spark some debate…
November 7th, 2005 at 6:27 pm
I never much cared for Angel after the first season.
“You’re a wee little puppet man.”
That, however, was hilarious.
November 7th, 2005 at 10:04 pm
mairceridwen - that line is my favorite line from all of the Angel seasons combined (and not just because Spike said it!) and I also agree that after season 1, Angel went downhill. I received the entire Angel series as a gift, which was very nice, but was only borrowing the Buffy set and am now Buffy-less as I had to return it! Aargh! I’m hoping to get the new box set for Christmas, but I guess I’ll be watching Angel in the meantime!

I just wanted to give my opinion on the five seasons of Angel. First of all, my favorite season was the fifth, as it was truly the point where the show was perfected (at least in my opinion.) However, I think that seasons three and four are next (with season four a little bit highter.) And, at least in my view, season one of Angel (especially the first half of the season) was the worst of any of the seasons of Angel or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The more anthology-like setup was certainly not nearly as good as the continuing stories of later seasons. However, I can see why someone might like the way that the characters of Angel and Cordelia were treated right away. Of course, what I wrote is just my opinion and I realize that everyone’s are different.

I am just starting season 4 of Angel, but I have seen ‘Smile Time’, ‘A Hole in the World’ (I hate you Joss), ‘Not Fade Away’, ‘You’re Welcome’, and both the ones you see Andrew from season 5. I personally think this is what happened with the writing for most of season 5 and especially ‘Smile Time’ (even though it was a funny episode):
“Okay guys, I just got word we are being cancelled. Any idea you brought up before that I said was stupid, lets do it. I mean, hey! We’re getting cancelled anyway!”
I haven’t seen all of season 5 so hopefully I will like it better as a whole. The only thing I saw that I really liked of season 5 so far was the Fred/Wes romance, I was like, “Finally!”
November 8th, 2005 at 4:47 am
Mental note- Ashley should not post comments about Angel, seeing as she has not seen every episode…particulairly the last bit.
Thanks Mel!
I really wish I had a few hundred dollars to blow on the DVDs…
November 8th, 2005 at 4:48 am
The whole Jasmine story bordered on unwatchable. It was inane and boring. A potently dreadful combination.
November 8th, 2005 at 4:50 am
Oh, and thanks to TwoToGo-Grave. It’s been a few months since I saw season four!
November 8th, 2005 at 4:59 am
Smash…I think that you can buy the entire seven season Buffy DVD set for a lot less than I paid for them as they were released. I believe they even sell it as one, huge set now. I believe I saw it on Amazon in the less-than-$200 range. Not cheap, by any means, but a helluva lot cheaper than buying them separately at around $50 a season as they were released.
It seems to me that, as true fans, we should chip in and buy for amy member here who doesn’t already own it, the full set….
November 8th, 2005 at 5:01 am
I’m about to get into season 4, ya me (dripping with sarcasm)!
November 8th, 2005 at 5:03 am
Take my advice, Abby…after about the third disc, skip to season 5 (I am assuming you’re talking about Angel.)
November 8th, 2005 at 6:41 am
Don’t worry, Abby. Despite the fact that some people don’t like season four, some of us loved it. I even like the end of the season a lot, especially the season finale.
November 8th, 2005 at 1:00 pm
I liked the start of season 4, the return of Angelus, evil Cordy but when Jasmine came along I sort of went off it.
She was the worst big bad Angel ever had.
I do however love every other season of Angel, and season 5 is amazing esoecially the final episodes.
November 8th, 2005 at 1:10 pm
I’ll watch the whole season, I just hope I like it (my aunt said she pretty much mentally blocked season 4)!
November 8th, 2005 at 7:23 pm
I must agree with my brother (NotFadeAway) on this subject. Until season five, I personally thought that season four was the best season that the show had. Seeing Gina Torres show up is great, and her story is very entertaining, at least to me. The writers seemed to do an excellent job with the entire season (especially episodes 7-9), including the story at the end of the year. The Jasmine story is at its best when only one person (Fred) knows the “truth” about her, but all of these episodes are strong. That is just one opinion, anyway.
November 11th, 2005 at 8:27 pm
I have a theory
That it’s a demon
A production demon that made season 4 of Angel a little cheesy in order to make the final season of Buffy (which was running at the same time) look better.
Of course, I ground that on absolutely nothing and am not prepared to defend it, but it’s a possibility.
November 17th, 2005 at 1:35 am
I wished that she just had returned for one more time to buffy…
I thought she was funnier in Buffy then in Angel, but she did a great job playing Cordelia…
January 16th, 2006 at 6:23 am
in the above character profile of Cordelia Chase, it says that Cordy’s bizarre relationship with Xander was based on lust rather than mutual respect.
This doesn’t really fit in with how i view their relationship. Its a mismatch, for sure, but the xander cordy relationship is one of my btvs faves!
what do others think… did xander and cordy love each other?
January 16th, 2006 at 7:26 am
kinda off-topic, but going along with what people said before about Angel Season 4 (I’ll also throw it out there that I loved ALL the seasons of Angel just as much as Buffy)…
the only thing i didnt like, and in fact HATED, was Jasmine’s comment (and Skip’s comments as well) that everything, including Darla’s pregnancy, had been prearranged by Jasmine and her agents…
I HATED this, I thought it went against everything that Angel (the series) stood for…
Anyways, what were other people’s thoughts about that? I always wanted to believe that Jasmine was just so full of herself that she would say something like that to boost her own ego
January 16th, 2006 at 7:37 am
Oh yeah, I totally agree. Jasmine pissed me off. The only reason I don’t completely condemn her is because…wait, there is no reason not to
I thought Xander and Cordelia’s relationship started off as lust but it grew to something way more. I wouldn’t say they were in love (even though Cordelia said she loved Xander in Homecoming) but they shared something that really binded them together. I was sad when they broke up because they were good for each other but on the other hand, I was proud and happy for Cordelia. She knew she desearved better then for Xander to cheat on her. I mean, Xander said it himself, “People don’t want what’s right in front of them.”
January 16th, 2006 at 7:53 am
i love season 4 of angel– not because the plot withstands close examination, but because it is so bent!!
the fact that evil cordy shagged angel’s son and gave birth to a 6 foot black goddess with lots of shiny teeth made me squeal with delight and confusion.
the question of whether these events were pre-destined for me is in the same basket as the whole question of ‘did destroying jasmine destroy world peace?’. the answer to both these crucial questions is, of course, ‘maybe’.
and ghola8, i’m curious what you meant by
” I thought it went against everything that Angel (the series) stood for…”
January 16th, 2006 at 12:49 pm
Everytime i watch the last episodes of season 4 of Angel and Season 7 of Buffy i just have to watch Firefly again. Brilliant show. Season 4 of Angel was quite annoying at first but then i really got into it. I don’t really get why the Beast appeared and Angelus was set loose. They was no need for this but i spose they did sum it up with two words from Wesley “Birthing Pains” which i just don’t understand.
January 27th, 2006 at 2:23 pm
I think that the plot plans got messed up with Charisma Carpenter’s pregnancy, but I could be mistaken. Too much doesn’t flow to well, continuity-wise (although I still love this season very much).
I must also state that it doesn’t seem that “lust” would quite describe Xander and Cordellia’s relationship, but I could be off about this as well.
January 28th, 2006 at 10:38 pm
Hi Everyone, I’m a new member so please don’t bombard me with any opposition for sayin’ this but, does anyone think that Cordy and Angel are such a cute couple, I mean don’t get me wrong, I liked the whole Buffy and Angel thing but I believe that Angel finally found his true love, he and Buffy had a cute time.. but well, that was, forgive for sayin’ this, a bit weird, not because he was a vamp, but because they never really became friends first, right? Just straight to lovers. At least with Cordy and Angel, they started as friends and eventually learned they loved each other… (cute)
Oh no, I think i’ve said too much and angered the Buffy and Angel fans, uh-oh,
Goddess protect me!!!
January 29th, 2006 at 10:59 pm
I think I made a smart “wanting to not get my head bashed in” decision when going with Giles and Jenny. I mean, people just kind of smile and nod at me.
BTW: This morning I was thinking of Cordy dieing. It really was so sad to see her go. She was the first old school Buffy character (that I can think of right now) to die.
January 29th, 2006 at 11:45 pm
Well, No. It depends how you see it.
Harmony was a “Old school Buffy character” and she’s pretty dead. She just didn’t stay dead. Jonathan was a old school chracter too, but I guess he wasn’t a major one. And Cordy have died once before, but in a diffrent reality, (The wish)
Boy, is Buffy a complictaed serie, or what?
January 30th, 2006 at 4:33 am
You’re right about it being a complicated series, but if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be nearly so good.
January 30th, 2006 at 5:22 am
i just watched the episode in Angel series 5 where cordy comes back for one last hurrah.
The chemistry between her and angel/ charisma and david is incredible. what a pleasure to watch, and i feel like we actually got come closure, a rare thing in whedon town.
January 30th, 2006 at 5:30 am
That one always makes me so sad. I love Cordy.
February 14th, 2006 at 9:19 pm
I’ve only gotten the pleasure to see Cordelia on Buffy andI haven’t seen the Cordelia on Angel but I’ve been reading along on what happens in it, change was good for her.
I’m just wondering since she gets visions in Angelverse, does the Scoobies know about that?
