She spent three-years as a soldier in the People’s Liberation Army in Tibet from the age of 14. Her main activity there was to entertain with musical theatre.

As she grew up, Ling’s rebelliousness caused friction with the Chinese government. She was accused of insubordination for using tobacco and alcohol, was briefly hospitalized for depression by the end of her army service, and partook in the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989. She temporarily came to New York in 1991 to attend New York University’s film department as a visiting scholar, but later obtained a special visa that allowed her to remain in the United States until she became a citizen in 1999.

Bai played Senator Bana Breemu in Star Wars: Episode III but her role was cut during editing. She claimed that this was because of her posing nude for the June 2005 issue of Playboy magazine, whose appearance on newstands coincided with the movie’s May 2005 release, but director George Lucas denied this, stating that the cut had been made more than a year earlier.

In 2005 Ling VH1 program called But Can They Sing?, a show in which celebrities sang - one being voted off the show each week. Bai Ling was most famous for her risquee and raunchy get-ups. She was eliminated just before the grand finale but was invited back on the final week for a special performance of Divinyls’ ‘I Touch Myself.’ She became known for her flamboyancy and publicity-chasing outfits, often featured on the website Go Fug Yourself.

References
Carrie

Carrie

In the episode The Prom, Tucker Wells tried to ruin the School Prom by training hellhounds to attack people wearing tuxedoes. Buffy says she’s “Gotta stop a crazy from pulling a Carrie at the prom”. She’s referring to the book Carrie by Stephen King, in which a telekinetic girl destroys her home town after her classmates play a cruel joke on her at the Prom.
In Nightmares, Giles, Xander and Willow find Buffy’s grave. Suddenly, Buffy’s hand comes out of the ground and grabs Giles, scaring everyone. This is a visual reference to the movie version of Carrie, in which the final sequence shows a nightmare a character has about being attacked by Carrie’s hand from a grave.
In She, the following conversation occurs, with Cordy using ‘Carrie’ as a verb:

Cordelia: “A chick that burns? Are you okay? Did she Carrie you?”
Angel: “Did she care about me?”
Cordelia: “Did she Carrie you. Carrie? the movie? You know?”

Angel: "Actually, in Hell you tend to know a lot of people."

Wesley: "What say a couple of brooding demon hunters start chatting up some of the fillies?"

Angel: "I don't dance."

Cordelia: "They're still in bean form. I thought I ordered the ground... maybe you could crush the beans with your super vampire strength?"

Cordelia: "You used to be a person. Did you never party? Did people not gather in older times?"

Cordelia: "Laura thought you hated her. I had to tell her you were challenged."

Angel: "I've got two modes with people: bite or avoid."

Cordelia: "Wesley, stop kissing butt. It's not like we get over time."

Cordelia: "Are you okay? Did she "Carrie" you?"
Angel: "Did she care about me?"
Cordelia: "'Carrie' you. Like the movie, you know?"

Cordelia: "What are you doing? We nearly got burned from the inside out and you're here getting all April fresh!"

Cordelia: "Wesley, you're about to get you eyeballs fried."

Tay: "You don't understand our ways, human."
Angel: "No I don't... and I'm not human."

Cordelia: "Oh look whose here! Can I get you anything? A knife to our throats so you can runaway?"

Angel: "If you vow to protect the innocent Jhiera, it shouldn't matter what dimension they're from. I'll be there to stop you if you cross the line."
