The scythe which Buffy finds in Touched comes from the Slayer comic book called Fray, created by Joss Whedon. In the comic, future slayer Fray is using the scythe to fend off vampires, so it gets passed down through generations after Buffy has it. |

I have Fray. It’s a super comic but I got it after the last ep so I didn’t think that the scythe could have gone from comic to TV thats kinda cool to know. Sweet trivia.

According to the Fray comic, Buffy was the last slayer called before Fray. When the First was defeated (maybe temporarily) in the battle at the end of season 7 and all the potentials became slayers, the demons retreated so that there was no great evil to be fought. The slayer line was dormant until the forces of evil rose again in Melaka Fray’s time. The scythe was given to Fray by a demon, but even he didn’t know how it got from Buffy to Fray. We don’t really know that it was “passed down through generations” (of potential watchers?). It might have been lost for many years and then rediscovered later, just like it was before Buffy got it.
Maybe Joss’s season 8 comics coming out in November will clear some of this up.
