In Into the Woods, Buffy, momentarily forgetting her slayer strength, hugs the Doctor who successfully performed Joyce’s surgery a little too hard. This also occurred in Flooded, when Buffy hugged Giles, nearly squeezing him to death. |

She also does it in All the Way when she hugs Xander at the mini-party, to congratulate him on the engagement. He says something like “choking!” Nice running joke.

That joke fits in with the plot idea that Buffy is “full of love,” but she feels hard inside and can’t see it herself. She actually loves so much that she can’t contain it and she comes across as being hard instead. Did that make any sense?
