when was Dawn’s principal at Sunnydale high? cause when the new high school opened up, Wood was the principal

Before Dawn moved to Sunnydale High, not the principle.
If Dawn was a freshman (9th grade), that school is probably some kind of middle-school which sometimes terminates at grade 9. I know people who entered their local highschools in 10th grade (as sophnmores) which really screws up freshman hazing rituals.

Or it was some kind of satellite school, established all over Sunnydale to accomodate highschool students who were displaced by the destruction at the end of season three.
