This is my top 3 actors..
In loved Emma Caulfield way of making Anya a living person. She was so funny and had a way of speaking her lines that always makes me laughe.
Sarah Michelle Geller is one of the many things that keeps the show floating. She took the part of buffy and made it her own and gave it coulor. She can act all sorts of feelings and when she cries, I cry.
Anthony Stewart Head is an amazing actor. He can be scary, angry and still grandpa like. His character is such a importent part of Buffy’s life and he and Sarah are glowing togeteher.

Karen e-mailed me too Jess, I am going to try and e-mail her back later.

Alright… let’s see
Emma Caulfield…
The way she played Anya was AMAZING!
the way she acts, she just makes me smile everytime I see her on screen, The way she makes faces or say her lines… she has the best comedian timing ever on the show…
Alyson Hanigan….
The way she growed as an actress and how she made Willow an adult..
she was so cute as nerdy Willow, but the adult wicca/lesbian willow was sooooo much better, she became a rolemodel for the other group of people who couldnt relate with Buffy…
and I just love the way she acts… so much passion and so much joy…
Amber Benson…
first of all I LOVE the relationship between Willow & Tara, I personally think its the most strongest and beautifullest on-screen relationship ever written and played…
I was so happy with Amber, the way she played Tara was real, honest, cute, nice, sweet and strong…
and she got better and better every episode she was in… I love Amber because of all the characters in Buffy I thought she was the realest, the honest and the most sweetest character and Amber did a REAL good job… I cried when Tara died
Sarah Michelle Gellar…
It’s obvious because the show is about HER and they wouldnt have cast her if she was a bad actress… but she did a REAL good job… she made me believe in Buffy, I felt everything she went trough…
she played Buffy real strong and yeah… Sarah is my hero :)
I love more characters like Faith, Cordelia, Spike, Xander, Giles and Dawn (everyone except Riley i guess :P) but those 4 are the best in acting

In my personal opinion here are the top three:
James Marsters-His character went through so many changes and his role on the show changed so many times (villian, humour, romance, hero) and he always gave outstanding performances on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. He has got to have the top spot with the job he did in “Fool for Love” (among others.)
Sarah Michelle Gellar-She is the one who made the show go from the start, and she continued to do a great job for seven seasons, being very good at drama, comedy, and suspense. She also did a great job of helping to sell the show’s seemingly ridiculous premise with her great performance from the start of the series.
Seth Green-Although he dindn’t get a the big storylines to show off his acting ability in seasons two and three, he did get a great oppurtunity to show it off in season four (especially in “Wild at Heart and “New Moon Rising.”)
While I’m sure that many people might disagree with these choices, this is my personal opinion on the top three. Also, Amber Benson has to be near the top as well, since she did such an incredible job on the show.

My top actors would probably be
James Marsters
Because he not only played a complex character who was frightening, sentimental, funny, and powerfully sexual - he had serious stage chemistry. In season 5 of Angel he stole every scene he was in, I kept forgetting that it was Angel’s show! He was a stone fox, but he also seemed like a pretty intelegent guy.
Eliza Dushku
Her non-Joss work aside, I adored her. I may be alone on this but I didn’t think Faith’s bad girl character ever got cheesy. When she was on the back of the truck in Who Are You? she just about broke my heart.
Juliet Landau
So cheesy, so absurd, it was just fantastic. She was so good at being sexy and at the same time being a total nutcase.

SMG - Consistently funny, compelling, smart and strong in her role. Great range. Unfortunately, she hasn’t landed any roles outside BtVS to prove her meddle. Though there is a lot of buzz about her most recent effort. And a stretch, as she portrays a porn star.
Emma Caufield — Pitch perfect as Anya, never once stepping even an inch out of character (watch her when she isn’t delivering a line or the focus of the scene; she always remains embedded in her character). She could make you laugh and cry with the smallest change in intonation or a facial expression. And a good singing voice. A great comic actress, and, alas, not seen since BtVS, at least by me. It is a bloody shame the way shows like BtVS — character-driven ensembles — condemn good actors to a life of either lame type-casting or, worse, the convention-circuit.
James Marsters - Like the others I’ve mentioned, tremendous range, and able to emote without being sacchrine. Never over the top — measured performances, from the campy/outrageous to the subtle/touching. It would appear Spike had a “soul” all along. Likewise, and I defer to my British friend (though I did attend university in the U.K.), JM did an amazing British accent — never too much (see my critique of Drusilla, below).
Of the “minor characters” — I’m going with Willy and Clem…and who doesn’t love Clem?…
[Smash…as much as I enjoy your posts here and respect your opinion tremendously, I have to take issue with your selection of Juliet Landau. Now, I actually blame the writers/directors for just an ill-conceived character, but she seemed to only make matters worse — terrible English accent, over-the-top lunacy, and scary arm muscles (sorry…I like my women…um…womenly…). I find her performance grating, though, again, tend to blame the writers for writing her that way. Between her dreadful “poetry” and abuse of metaphors, she has always been, to me, the weak link in the show — more cartoon than character. I’ve never seen her in anything else, though I would imagine — given her lineage (Martin Landau’s daughter), she has the ability to play a more subtlely written role well.]

My top three…
James Marsters-He’s the best actor the show had. All of the aspects that made up this character over the years require a great deal of acting talent in order to pull it off. Seeing “Fool For Love” alone should help one to see his acting ability. Personally, though I have long thought that the scene in “Smashed,” in which he goes after a helpless girl, best shows the great subtitlty that he brought to the role.
Sarah Michelle Geller-She is amazing at so many different emotions and approaches. I know her films may make her look bad, but that is only because she has chosen to do mediocre films, for the most part. “The Body,” “Restless,” and the final scene of “Afterlife” come to mind in showing her acting ability.
Michelle Trachtenberg-I realize that in the beginning of her run on the show, she was a weak actress, but this must have been because of her age and experience (which couldn’t have been much). By the end, she was excellent at both humour and drama (it may have been hard to see, since she was so sparingly used late in the show’s run). “Him” and “Forever” show off her acting talents, but my favorite scenes for showing it are the scene between her and Sarah Michelle Geller early in “Afterlife” and the cutting scene in “Blood Ties”. Also, since the show ended, she has gotten even better of an actress.
I would include Seth Green and Allyson Hannigan in a longer list, but the aformentioned are my personal top three. It’s just an opinion.
November 29th, 2005 at 5:31 pm
Actually, Michelle Trachtenberg cut her acting teeth on a show called “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” for Nickelodian. If any of you missed it, I highly recommend it. It was off-beat and very funny. It’s also available on DVD now. *Disclaimer: I am in no way associated with Nickelodian, and will in no manner reap any financial benefit from the sale of these DVDs”.*

I don’t think Michelle was weak at the beginning of her years as Dawn. She was quite the acting veteran by then (don’t forget Inspector Gadget!).
November 29th, 2005 at 5:41 pm
That is interesting to learn. I surely didn’t know that.
November 29th, 2005 at 5:47 pm
Well, maybe she wasn’t all that weak. She did improve a lot, regardless of her level at the beginning, at least in my opinion.
(Note: the above post was in respone to slightlyembarrassed response, since that may be confusing.)
November 29th, 2005 at 7:34 pm
Michelle did a lot of acting before Buffy…
and I thought she was BRILLIANT as the annoying teenager Dawn… and even more brilliant as the grown up Dawn…
Her scenes in Conversations with the dead was such great acting it gave me shivers…. and in The potential she was also really good, and that scene between her and Xander made me cry…
I loved Dawn… it was so original to bring a character in the show like that… and I was so happy to hear that michelle was going to be in Buffy it made me double happy :)
November 29th, 2005 at 7:41 pm
Wow, I can’t believe that you like the character of Dawn so much (oh, wait, it doubles as your screen name).
It was great of them to add this character, as she is very interesting and she brought some added life to the series (not that it was lacking life, obviously). By the way, it’s good to point out Conversations With Dead People when discussing her acting, as she was excellant in that episode (not that she wasn’t in the others, of course).
November 29th, 2005 at 7:44 pm
Well I like a lot of characters… (like Anya & Tara more then Dawn)
but still I really though that Dawn was underrated with the audience…
she has sooo much potential and I loved Michelle already from her earlier work (but that was more cute then good)
but she did stood up in a lot of episodes with her acting abilities
November 29th, 2005 at 9:09 pm
…ok, I’m going to go out on a limb here, and say that Dawn (from here Dawn) is a pretty big Michelle T. fan….just a shot in the dark…Am I right?
November 29th, 2005 at 9:34 pm
I just noticed that at the top of this page it says that this trivia has been “suggested by Jess. It has not yet been approved.” Hmmm…let’s see…Jess suggested the topic…and Jess runs the website…hence, Jess probably APPROVES all submissions…and still, Jess has to wait for Jess’s approval…All of which raises the question…Is Jess schitzophrenic? If so, I think we can all conclude that she is, most certainly, a “high functioning schitzophrenic”….
November 29th, 2005 at 9:55 pm
Youre right.. I’m a fan, but I’m just as big of a Michelle-T fan just like i’m a big Emma Caulfield, SMG, Charisma, Elizah, Nicholas, James, Amber, Anthony and Allyson fan… but the character Dawn just was something what made the show for me more interessting, it was so original and I loved how they fooled the audience… they even made me think *wait did I miss an episode here?* LOL…
But then when I think of it…
Cordelia, Faith, Anya & Tara made me also fell in love with the show together with the great acting from Sarah
November 29th, 2005 at 10:23 pm
Damn I talk 2 much…
I always become such a geek when I talk about Buffy.. at least thats what most of my friends say LOL…
November 30th, 2005 at 1:55 am
It’s understandable…there were many episodes in which the character Dawn talked too much…in fact, I have a sister whose name is Dawn, and SHE talks too much…must be a name-related thing…(only teasing, Dawn…you talk just the right amount…)
December 11th, 2005 at 9:02 am
You’re certainly right about teenagers being annoying (or maybe that was just me as a teenager.) I find it strange when people don’t like the character of Dawn for this reason, namely since she is only there as the “annoying sister” for four episodes (since after episode four she got an actual story.) Also, I know that some people (although not the people who post on this site apparently) didn’t like the fact that adding Dawn changed the family dynamic of the show, but it was clearly important to do something to keep the show fresh (even though season four had been great) and adding such a great character certainly did that. Sorry for going on such a long tangent, but I just wanted to give my opinion.

Ok, my top three (in answer to the original question!) are:
Xander/Nic Brendon: Nic totally made the character his own. He was funny, always cracking jokes at the wrong time (which sometimes even made Giles glare at him which I always love to see!) and was always the one who got the ‘funny syphillis’ and was everybody’s butt monkey. I loved the way Xander’s character developed through the seasons from a sulky teenager living in his parents’ basement to an all growed up Xander who worked hard and was well respected. He saved the world in season 6 by just being himself and talking Willow out of her pyschotic issues, telling her how much he loved her. I just think Nic was great as Xander, particularly as he really didn’t have any (decent) acting experience before getting the role.
Anthony S Head/Giles: ASH is a fantastic actor and was absolutely awesome in Buffy. He was always the one with the answers, has a cracking sense of humour, acted as a father figure to Buffy and Dawn, particularly after their mother died, and was generally an all round great guy. When he left Sunnydale after Buffy died I was really sad to see him leave and just prayed that he’d come back. Thankfully he did, although he popped in and out of S.Dale a couple of times afterwards! I loved that even though Giles is really clever and refined, he too had done some things in the past that he wasn’t proud of, just to show that he too can make mistakes. I loved Giles and thought he was one of the strongest characters of the Buffyverse.
Willow/Alyson Hannigan: Alyson’s character Willow also developed through the series incredibly. She started out as this really shy, insecure computer geek who got picked on by most of the students at school, and through the series we saw her take her first steps to becoming a witch, getting her first boyfriend and having her first sexual experience, starting college where I think she really blossomed as a person, having a real dilemma when her ex came back in to her life just as she was starting a new relationship with Tara, turning in to a psycho evil witch when her lover was murdered, and eventually combatting her fears and helping Buffy and co. save the world by turning into “A Goddess”. I love Willow, she’s funny, cute, brainy, quirky, and really strong willed.
Phew, my hands hurt now !!
