Yeah, but it’s not necessarily a goof. Witnesses don’t always provide accurate information. The woman might have heard a scream, or at least thought she did, and then assumed, when she learned that there’d been a killing, that she had heard the victim scream.
Interestingly, on the *Veronica Mars* rerun this week, Veronica listens to a pilfered police tape of callers’ messages regarding tips these community members believed they had about the Lily Kane murder. Person after person left useless information about things they thought they’d witnessed, which they believed were tied to Lily’s murder.
The show’s creators seem to like to confound our expectations, so it seems in character for them to hand us a mistaken witness.
