Same old trick

Buffy

Buffy fights Angel in the cemetery in Becoming (Part 1), then realises that she was distracted away from the library so that Drusilla could hurt her friends. In When She Was Bad, the Master’s lackeys used the same trick on Buffy to capture Willow for the resurrection ritual. Angelus says to her when she runs to the library, “And you fall for it every time!”

Also, in ‘Lies My Parents Told Me’, Giles draws Buffy away on the pretense of a training session so that Robin can kill Spike.

It’s understandable though, why they were able to divert her attention. In LMPTM, she never thought Giles would ever do that.

In BP2, Angelus told her others would die if she didn’t show. Knowing Angelus, he really would have gone on a slaughtering spree if she hadn’t gone. If she had stayed, she and Kendra would have probably been able to fight off Dru and her minions. However, Angelus would have been seriously pissed off that, not only did she not show, she prevented him from getting Giles and the information he needed. I think Sunnydale would have been short a whole mess of people if Buffy hadn’t met him. And then she would have felt guilty at him making her responsible for even more deaths.

In WSWB, the only person she thought was in danger was herself. Well, other than Cordelia. She couldn’t just ignore the note. Of course, maybe she should have waited until Giles fully completed the translation.
