 After her first kiss in All the Way, Dawn says, “Shiver me timbers”. This is a quote from Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1881 novel Treasure Island, and was also used in a 1934 Popeye cartoon going by the same name. Dawn originally heard the phrase from Anya, who said: “But you get to dress up and play games! Xander’s going to teach me a new one after work called Shiver Me Timbers. Ever play?” Here, Anya is hinting at the (most likely adult) game she will be playing with Xander later, while he’s dressed as a pirate. |
