In Get It Done, Spike refers to himself and his souled condition as “unique” before pausing and stating, “Well, more or less.” This is a clear reference to the original souled vampire of the Buffy mythos: Angel. |

Ha ha ha. I love Angel but I’m afraid I’m always going to have to side with Spike.

Wow, I would get that shirt if it wasn’t a baby doll type. I love it: Turn on: Bad Poetry!

I think there were other ones, shirts I mean. Other than the baby doll thing. It was just the first on the list or w/e. It’s great though isn’t it?? : )

Copying Angel, my ass. Angel was cursed with his soul and didn’t want it, but Spike fought to get his back - I would say that was a pretty big difference.

Sorry to argue with you Wynter (especially since I know how much you love Spike), but to be fair, he must have gotten the idea to get a soul from Angel, so that could count as copying (it’s not exactly copying, but still…). And it is a big difference, but it really has no bearing on them post-soul, because once you have the soul, does it really matter how the demon that you were got it? I wouldn’t think that it would, since that creature (whether it is evil Spike or evil Angel) is not the same person as who he is after getting the soul.

Haha, it’s all good TwoToGo, as always your points make an interesting argument to counter. But, for once, I’ll admit you have a point - it is obvious that the whole getting a soul idea came from Angel. I wanna focus on another thing you said though:
I disagree. Not completely, mind you, because obviously souled Spike and Angel are not the same as their soulless counterparts in that they have a “moral compass” and a conscious. But I don’t believe that getting a soul makes either Spike or Angel an entirely different person than who he was before; I don’t believe either one of them can blame all their evil actions on their evil self as if he was a seperate being altogether; to me, they’re essentially still the same people but with a soul, they now have a built in sense of right and wrong.
That’s why it really annoyed me when I watched Awakening for the first time the other day, and everyone kept referring to Angelus as “he”, making him out to be someone else. I was like “no, it’s still you Angel, it’s still you!!” I mean, obviously I know that Angel doesn’t and won’t do the same things as Angelus, but in my opinion, he’s still that guy. A soul doesn’t make him a new born-again vampire.

I agree that they’re not entirely different, but just that they are different, and therefore their reasons for obtaining souls should not be held for or against them.
I agree heavily with this. I can never even stand to call Angel ‘Angelus’, as he should not be considered a totally different person.
As always, it is fun to argue with you Wynter, as you make intellegent points to debate.
