I think that was a real shame. They should have had Xander in the episode even it is was just for a moment. I don’t like the way that he wasn’t in every single episode of the series.

Yeah. Xander not being in every episode always made me sad too. I think they were originally going to have Xander talking to Jesse as The First, but the actor that played Jesse couldn’t do it so they just wrote both guys out of the script.

If Xander was in that episode talking to Jesse then Willow wouldn’t have been in the ep, so either way we’d have missed out. I agree that it’s a shame he wasn’t in all episodes - and strikes me as fitting, as his role in season seven was definitely diminished.

Agreed. I was just thinking how could we write out dawn and have xander instead but then joyce wouldn’t have come back. i think if jesse was available then dawns bit would have been cut.

I believe I read somewhere that Nicholas Brendon said at a convention that being wrote out of a entire episode was like a slap in the face or something to that effect, he also mentioned in a interview for his new show Kitchen Confidential, that Whedon told him the Xander character was done as far as any storyline etc and he was relegated to the background, and he wished he had the nerve to leave the show as his co-star Bradley Cooper did on Alias, but the paycheck was more important than his pride.

Wow, I dont know if I believe Whedon said that to him… I always thought they were not only co-workers but also friends. Maybe I’m just idealistic (a la the LOST cast).
