Who’s gay?

Xander and Larry

It is rumoured that Joss Whedon originally hadn’t decided whether it would be Willow or Xander who turned out to be gay. Xander’s conversation with Larry in Phases could have been a foreshadowing for his future had Xander been homosexual and not Willow.

hmm, imagine xander gay, with spike, hmm i don’t think that would have worked, lukily thanks to willow’s gayness two great characters were introduced, TARA andn kennedy and it would we weird to think of the show without them.

    2. TwoToGo-Grave says:

Disturbing mental image. I will have to scrub the inside of my eyelids now. I am glad that they went the way that they did here as well. Tara is my favorite character on this or any other show, and it would have been a horrible shame if she had never appeared. That character means so much to me that it would have been impossible to imagine never having seen her show up.

    3. Comfortador says:

xander has this to say about Angel in Teacher’s Pet:
“He’s a very attractive man! How come that never came up?” and says how buff he is.

    4. Comfortador says:

Then in 5.18 Intervention this exchange takes place:
BUFFY: (angrily) I am not having sex with Spike!
      ANYA: Anger.
XANDER: No one is judging you. It’s understandable. Spike is strong and mysterious and sort of compact but well-muscled.
BUFFY: (firmly) I am not having sex with Spike! But I’m starting to think that you might be.

    5. Comfortador says:

And how about in season 7 ep First Date:
XANDER:What do you think happened? Another demon woman was attracted to me. (Anya rolls her eyes) I’m going gay. I’ve decided I’m turning gay. Willow, gay me up. Come on, let’s gay.
      WILLOW:
      (softly, a little embarassed) What?
XANDER:You heard me. Just tell me what to do. I’m mentally undressing Scott Bakula right now. That’s a start, isn’t it?
      ANDREW:(wistfully)Captain Archer… (nods)
XANDER:Come on, let’s get this gay show on the gay road. Help me out here.
BUFFY:(smiles) What if you just start attracting male demons?
      DAWN:(giggles) Clem always liked you.
ANYA:(pouting) It would serve you right.
      GILES:Children, enough.
XANDER:I’d need some stylish new clothes.

    6. Comfortador says:

And in Pangs (4.08) Xander starts out auditioning for a Village People cover band with the construction worker outfit (no matter what Buffy says!)
And then he gets the funny syphilis from a Chumash spirit vengeance GUY.

    7. somethingblue says:

Of course, HBO’s Six Feet Under really delved into the male homosexual relationship with one of its core characters, and I thought they handled many of that character’s relationships beautifully.

    8. somethingblue says:

Incidentally, Jessie from Season 1, Welcome to the Hellmouth (Xander & Willow’s friend who gets vamped and dusted) became a recurring character on six feet under. Six degrees of Buffy, you know.

    9. cardboardy says:

and in love with spike too!
remember in season 6, when the nerds linked into spike and anya shagging at the magicbox, and andrew was like “he is so cool!!” …(and as an afterthought) oh and the girl’s hot too.

    10. Comfortador says:

I forgot about Jesse! He and Xander violate the 3 second rule (in The Harvest around 20:28) which states: any two men who are not father and son or grandfather and grandson who hug for 3 or more seconds are gay. That’s the rule. Plus, if you watch real close as they are running down the tunnel Jesse and Xander are holding hands.

    11. beagle says:

no way, they aren’t holding hands?, yer kidding, right? okay, you got me. Not that there is anything wrong with that. But yes, there is definitely a double standard when it comes to gay guys vs. lesbians.

    12. somethingblue says:

Ok, in All the Way, Anya asks Tara if she’s ever played “shiver me timbers” and Tara says: “I’m not really much for the timber.” Just another funny lesbian joke!

    13. beagle says:

My best friend is a lesbian. We work together. She gives me girl advice all the time. She is the bestest. I live in the “artsy” part of town and there are a lot of gay folk. Sorta the Greenwich Village of Charleston..haha The bass player in my band is gay. He and his partner of 14 years live around the bend from us. My wife and I spend more time with them than anyone else and they are the best. You’ll never meet better people than those two.
The only thing that seperates homosexuals from hetros is what they like for sex. And that is none of my business. I don’t care about their sex lifes any more than I do my parents sex life.
And BoysP, If slightlyembarrised was still posting, your cuddling comment would not go unpunished.. haha

    14. somethingblue says:

You’re right, beags, slightlyem would really dig her cuddling with girls all the time! And “gay folk”, now that’s funny!

    15. somethingblue says:

b’please, he got pissed in the forum when the discussion began with some complaining about off-topic posts on the trivia guide and Jess said that’s why she started the forum. He said he would cease to post (that thread is closed now) and then he hasn’t posted since then. I tried to talk him back online, but he paid me no attention. That’s the backstory…and I kind of love that I’m furthering the non-Buffy chatter on the guide by answering the questions (*wink*)

    16. somethingblue says:

Ooooh, it’s also funny that he (slightlyem) came up in the Who’s Gay topic, as he would find that funny and possibly, offensive…

    17. Abby M. says:

A moment of silence is rememberance for Slightlyem. I’ll miss the times we shared!

OK, I just can’t picture Xander as gay…I physically can’t do it.

    18. MagicBone says:

I miss slightlyembarrased. He ‘provided much needed sarcasm’ and hilariosity. Reminds of my friends … but w/o the humor.
