um…cars in America don’t have to have a front license plate. Only a back one.

Actually, in the U.S., whether there is only one rear plate, or a rear and front plate, depends on what state you live in. For example, Missouri requires a rear and a front plate. Oklahoma only requires a rear plate.
Having said that, I have no idea anymore what California requires. It’s been several years since I was there to notice.

In ‘Never Kill A Boy On The First Date’ Giles car does have a front license plate. This can be seen when he arrives at the funeral home.

California is one of the States where you only need a rear number plate.

In California there are different counties that require front and rear plates. The counties that have Red light camera require both plates.
