Goof seen in: First Date at 32.41
When Wood, Buffy and Spike are in the car, Wood looks in the rear-view mirror at Spike - but wouldn’t have seen him as he doesn’t have a reflection. He’s then surprised at the Hellmouth that Spike’s a vampire. |

He probably suspected that about Spike when he didn’t see him in the mirror, and confirmed it when he saw Spike vamp out. (His surprise could be that he thought it was strange for a Slayer to get help from a vampire.) We later see him do this again when he’s confronted with his mom, who he knows is dead and must be the First, but he makes sure she’s incorporeal until he calls her that.

It’s possible, but I personally believe it’s just a (stupid and obvious) goof. Robin’s reaction to Spike’s vamp face looks more “oh, shit” then “oh, I knew it” to me.
Anyway, gotta love goofs; they’re part of us geeky types’ raison d’ĂȘtre, aren’t they?

Yeah, that bit always bothered me. When I first saw it it totally took me out of the moment cause my brain was like, “Wait a minute!!! How can they not catch that?!” I tried to analyze it away, but what can I say: I just love the Buffyverse too much to let its various inconsistencies get to me.

Yeah, it seems like they would play that up to be when Wood realizes he’s a vamp. But to put it in and then for him not to even acknowledge he doesn’t have a reflection! Made me mad…

Giles says, People will rationalize what they can’t understand and dismiss what they can’t accept. Chock it up to the hellmouth.

But he already knew about vampires. I mena, when he actually realized Spike was a vampire, he wasn’t to surprised.

This goof kinda annoyed me too because it’s so obvious that from the position
Spike is sitting in, Wood would notice he had no reflection when he glanced in the mirror. But then again, he’s driving at night and it’s all dark and shadow-ey so maybe he just figured there wasn’t enough light to see him properly, so he dismissed it.
I don’t think he knows that Spike’s a vampire before he goes into game face though, that’s the obvious intention of the scene in the school basement.
