 Acathla was a demon entombed in rock with a sword sticking out of his chest. Buried deep underneath Sunnydale and unearthed by some construction workers before being stolen by Angelus. I know this is proberably a really stupid question, but why does Buffy have to stab Angel, cant she just move him away and just stab Acathla?

As Whistler explained it… it was Angel’s blood on the handle of the sword during the ritual that woke Acathla up, so it is only Angel’s blood on the sword that will close him down again… it has to be one thrust through both of them.

Even if she did just cut his hand he still would have been sucked into hell.
Think about it, a sword thru the heart would not have killed a vampire. I don’t think Angel was ever actually killed, (I know, I know, it was stated various times in Buffy that she killed Angel)he was just sucked into a hell dimension, much like going to Pylea or Quartath, or the world with nothing but shrimp.

I think Acathla has had a very good innings considering he had no lines, no movement and no actual actor behind him… hats off to him

Where did Acathla go to after this episode though? He should’ve been there when Angel came back.
