Sent to Hell

In the Angel season four episode ‘Deep Down‘, Angel says the following line to his son, Connor:

“What you did to me - was unbelievable, Connor. But then I got stuck in a hell dimension by my girlfriend one time for a hundred years, so three months under the ocean actually gave me perspective”.

This is a reference to the Buffy episode Becoming (Part 2) when Buffy killed Angel to stop Acathla destroying the world.

Was there any reference in BtVS as to how long Angel was in Hell? As far as I can remember, this “Angel” line is the first definitive indication of how long Angel was away.

And, hey. . . was there ever an explanation as to why Angel suddenly returned in “Beauty and the Beasts”?

    2. TwoToGo-Grave says:

There was no mention of how long he was there on BTVS, as far as I can remember anyway. Also, the only mention made as to why came in Amends, and it was incredibly vague (the claim that The First brought him back to use him for evil; which may or may not have been the true to begin with).

So are we supposed to think that The First brought Angel back to sleep with Buffy and kill her? That’s what I got.
