Bad birthdays

Buffy

Buffy celebrates her 20th birthday in Blood Ties. Her party comes to a staggering halt when Dawn discovers she’s the Key and freaks out. This isn’t the first (nor last) time that Buffy’s birthday has gone wrong. In Surprise, Buffy slept with Angel on her 17th birthday which prompted him to turn evil and start killing her friends. In Helpless, the Watcher’s Council forced a test on Buffy on her 18th birthday by removing her powers and seeing how she coped with a crazed vampire. In Older and Far Away, Dawn unwittingly made a wish with a vengeance demon that none can leave her, forcing the Scoobies to be stranded in Buffy’s house at her birthday party.

I don’t get why Buffy doesn’t have a birthday in season 7. She usually has one at the beginning of the second half of a season. So where was the season 7 one???

    2. Abby M. says:

It could be that the last season was referring to the first season a lot so because the first season didn’t have Buffy Birthday episode, the last one didn’t either. The more logical answer would be that she was too busy to even notice her birthday. In the episode that Giles comes back, she mentions that she didn’t even realize it was December. Maybe the same theory applies to her birthday.

    3. Abby M. says:

Also, this trivia doesn’t mention that on her ninetinth birthday, Giles turned into a Fyarl demon and she almost killed him.

I thought that it was kinda nice that there wasn’t always focus on Buffy’s birthday as none of the others really got birthday episodes…I know that they weren’t main characters but it would have been nice. It was nice that some of Buffy’s birthdays were missed.

    5. NotFadeAway says:

At least Cordelia got a birthday episode on Angel (even if it is the worst episode ever of Angel.) Also, I’m glad that Tara got a birthday episode since she’s my all time favorite character on any show (and because it was a great episode, unlike the aforementioned episode of Angel.)

    6. onlimain says:

I always thought that the reason why they only showed Buffy’s birthday was because she was the slayer. I’m not trying to say that the others’ weren’t as important. I only mean that they were celebrating one more year that Buffy survived as the slayer. I’m pretty sure they celebrated the others’ birthdays, just off-screen.

    7. margybee says:

They did show Tara’s birthday once. I can’t remember the season or the episode, but I remember Buffy and Xander are trying to decide what to get her, and they keep saying things like “She’s…different… but really nice!! She’s very nice..”

    8. margybee says:

oh, oops… missed that… notfadeaway mentioned Tara’s birthday. sorry!

    9. TwoToGo-Grave says:

onlimain, Thanks for mentioning the date on the headstone. I didn’t know of this screencap, and I didn’t remember it too well, apparently.

    10. Smash says:

Tommorrow (Dec 20th) is my 17th birthday. I am hoping I don’t get an arm in a box and a souless killer boyfriend as a suprise.

Actually it’s 18 in Alberta, but I’m not big on the intoxication anyway. Thanks for all the well wishes guys! It’s really sweet of you.

So far, no apocalypse, so I’d say it’s a good day.

    21. MagicBone says:

Grumble grumble … my birthday’s in 4 months. And it’s not even a good birthday where you get to do something that you couldn’t do before, like drive or vote or drink or something. Or when you get an arm in a box or a cruciamentum or your Watcher turns into a demony guy. Oh well … the best has yet to come, right?
