Bezoar

Bezoar

A prehistoric parasite living underneath Sunnydale High. The mother lays eggs, not dissimilar to chicken’s eggs. Whilst inside the egg, the parasite grabs a victim by using its long tentacles. They take control of the victims’ mind and, in this case, brainwash them into breaking open the floor of the basement of the school to release their mother. Buffy saves her brainwashed classmates by jumping down the hole they created to kill the Bezoar in Bad Eggs.

Bezoars appear in Harry Potter, but as hairballs in goats’ stomachs that become stone-like.

There are web sites out there designed to bilk you out of your money in exchange for these stones. Modern day indulgences…

A bezoar is actually any kind of calcification or stone taken from the stomach or intestines of an animal–generally a ruminant, but can be from other animals too. As in H.P. they are supposed to neutralize poisons. Some trichobezoars (hairballs!) do actually neutralize arsenic.
Why the writers chose to call this weird demon thing a bezoar I’m not really sure.
