Chantarelle was a member of Ford’s vampire wannabe group in Lie to Me. She later turned up again in L.A., this time calling herself Lily (Anne). There she met Buffy who politely informed her that Chantarelle was actually a mushroom. Later still, and using the name Anne (which she ‘borrowed’ from Buffy), she appeared in Angel, where she had become more confident and was running a shelter for the homeless. Speculation here, but I bet the name Lily is from the Smashing Pumpkins song of the same name. Rickie says it’s from a song, and she looks oddly pumpkinish.

Or else it’s Lily who says from that song, same thing anyway.

Or ‘Lily marlene’.

I dont think so. I think it was very careless of the writers not to think the viewers wouldnt pick up that Anne and Chantarelle were one and the same. And if they did know we would, then to devote a line or two to say it. this wouldn’t make a difference in the plot in a negative way. If anything it would add to the plot - the once thought to be evil Chantrelle turned even eviler by making an alliance with Wolfram and Hart and the same plot can still hold.

As I haven’t seen that Angel episode yet (what’s the episode number?): Are Anne and Chantarelle/Lily really meant to be the same person, or just two characters played by the same actor (like Cyrus/Andrew)?

It is season 2 of Angel, episode 12 and it is called Blood Money.
Anne is the same character that she was in Buffy, she is still using Buffy’s middle name from when she asked if she could in Anne.

They are definately meant to be the same person. Lily mentioned her time in the vampire cult when she meets Buffy in LA, and changes her name to Anne in the same episode (Anne). Hope that helped!

Aha, I just finished watching season 1, and season 2 is on the pile of DVDs to watch next.

she did change her name alot. but the whole thing was buffy gave her the insentive to do good in her life and not become a bum on the street living between shelters. buffy helped her understand that she has the power to do real good. its kinda like the movie pay it forward. it starts w/ buffy who does good to one person and in return that person (chantrelle) jad to do good to others and so on.

I would think Angel would remember her face even though he only saw her for a second. Vampires have photographic memory, as mentioned a few times.

Maybe Angel did remember her from Sunnydale, thus heightening his suspicion when he sees Lindsey McDonald hanging out with her and decides to spy on her.

If Angel had recognised her, we probably would have had it spelled out for us on screen.

Reckon you’re right Abby, but it’s fun to construct this stuff anyway.

Joss had said that the reason he didn’t have Angel recognise Anne was because in Lie To Me Angel only saw for a minute.

It still bothers me though. I think they should have done something to show/hint they knew each other.
