Behind the Scenes Trivia

Finding the source

Angel originally took longer to discover the power source in The Thin Dead Line:

Angel: “How are you controlling them? Is it the entrails? I don’t think so. Could you be controlling them with a sacred Manari candle? Nah. Red Herring. I know, maybe it’s the idol of Granath, the zombie God?”

Character Trivia
lily

Chantarelle/Lily/Anne

Chantarelle was a member of Ford’s vampire wannabe group in Lie to Me. She later turned up again in L.A., this time calling herself Lily (Anne). There she met Buffy who politely informed her that Chantarelle was actually a mushroom. Later still, and using the name Anne (which she ‘borrowed’ from Buffy), she appeared in Angel, where she had become more confident and was running a shelter for the homeless.

Death to the cast

Many of the main Angel cast have been killed or near death. Angel was killed and vamped in 1753; Doyle was killed in Hero; Gunn was electrocuted by Gwen and revived in Ground State; Wesley’s throat was slashed in Sleep Tight, he was shot in The Thin Dead Line and finally killed in Not Fade Away; Cordelia was comatose for most of season five before dying in You’re Welcome; and Fred was killed when Illyria took over her body in A Hole in the World.

References

Rodney King

In The Thin Dead Line, Rondell says, “All right, look, all I’m saying is, you gotta let me get set up so they don’t see me with this [camcorder]. Cops see me with this and there’s no way we’re gonna Rodney King them.” He’s referring to a shocking incident in 1991 in which an amateur cameraman video-taped four Los Angeles police officers arresting and beating an African-American named Rodney King. When they were exonerated, L. A. erupted in riots.

Steven Segal

In The Thin Dead Line, Cordelia says, “Maybe we could buy one of those star maps, find out where Steven Segal lives?” referring to the action movie star, who has starred in films including Today You Die, Belly of the Beast, The Foreigner, The Patriot, Under Siege, Hard to Kill and Above the Law.

Quotes

Cordelia: Maybe we could buy one of those star maps. Find out where Steven Segal lives... You telling me he got to be a movie star without a little demonic assistance?

Cordelia: Please, have a seat. Tell us what the problem is. Trust me, we specialize in strange. There's nothing we haven't... seeeennn. There's an eye in the back of her head!

Merle: Jeez! Can't you, you know... knock?
Angel: You don't make that funny expression when I knock, or if you do, I don't see it.

Merle: How is old Wesley, huh? Or the other two ya fired. They doin all right? Oh, gee, let me guess, you never even bothered to check!

Anne: Oh, I just thought I'd see how the other half lives. (Looks around) And strangely enough, it's not that different.

Gunn: Cause we'll be the ones walking while black.

Kate: Guess you didn't catch up with your vampire friends on time.
Angel: I did track 'em down and set them on fire later.

Cordelia: Nothing says "Ah ha, I'm on to you" like being on the receiving end of a vicous police beating.

Cordelia: Hey, Gunn graduated with a major in 'dumb planning' from Angel University. He sat at the feet of the master and learned well how to plan dumbly.

Gunn: Damn. Somebody have an apocalypse and forget to invite us?

Wesley: Is this morphine? Well, it's bloody lovely.

Cordelia: Too bad it takes a gunshot wound to make you to give a crap! Wesley doesn't need you right now. We don't need you. You walked away. Do us a favor and just stay away.
