Charmed

In the Charmed episode ‘The Power of Two’, the following dialogue takes place:

[vague sound]
PHOEBE: “What was that?”
PRUE: “Probably a zombie or a vampire”
PHOEBE: “Oh great, where’s Buffy when we need her?”

The episode also stars Jeff Kober (Buffy’s Rack and Zachary Kralik) as Jackson Ward.

In the Charmed episode ‘Bite Me’, Paige, Phoebe, Piper and Leo are discussing their current battle with vampires. Leo remarks that, “As far as I know they’re [vampires] a part of a whole different network now.” This is a subtle reference to the fact that Buffy had just moved from WB (Charmed’s network) to UPN.

I love Charmed (but obviously not as much as I love Buffy) and you can see that a ton of the episodes and stuff are just like episodes of Buffy. There are ones where the sisters think they are in a mental hospital (Normal Again) and a new one (yet to come out) where Piper and Leo switch bodies (a la Who Are You, the Buffy-Faith switcheroo.) By the way, switcheroo is quite possibly the best word ever.

    2. MagicBone says:

On Charmed, Piper and Leo’s younger son that has yet to be conceived, comes back to the future to warn the sisters about stuff and make sure he is born. When he comes back, he is an adult which is possibly a take off of Connor from Angel who is taken into a hell dimension as a baby and comes back a month or so later as a teenager.
There was a demon once (on Charmed) that sucked brains, much like Glory. And Charisma Carpenter was on a few eps of Charmed as a Seer, unfortunately not as Cordy.

    3. Smash says:

The biggest difference though is that Charmed has truly terrible writing. Buffy had great writers who kept the show afloat for a lot of years, but the scripts for Charmed are just so lame, I can’t take it seriously. I watched the show for a while, but it’s just gotten so much worse over the years. The alias/new bodies thing was really jumping the shark (but only if you don’t think they already did it with the whole Wyatt/Chris arc).

I did however love Charisma’s role. I broke my heart when she died, she was such a great character.

      Charmed is painful to watch.

I’d been watching this show for a while and was constantly noticing all the huge similarities to Buffy. I actually got worried when I found out they were gonna be fighting vampires, and I was particuarly anxious to see how they dusted them. But it was OK. They just screamed and burst into flames like EVERY OTHER EVIL THING on Charmed. I’ve also noticed that they’ve had quite a few Buffy directors on Charmed, too.

    6. Nocturne says:

Argh, Charmed has become quite a difficult show to watch this season. Why did they introduce Billy - she is the most whiny character EVER! Paige has seemed to become more whiny as well. Phoebe just gets on my nerves now, Piper doesn’t annoy me as much but her off-and-on relationship with Leo just gives me a headache…
Buffy the Vampire Slayer shall always be much better then Charmed!

    7. Angel242 says:

Oh god yes! I’ll drink to that! Charmed is tragic, seriously, I’m so happy the 8th season is the last. Really it should have ended like 3 seasons ago, when it was still on. I can’t stand to watch it.

    8. Nocturne says:

I think killing off Prue made me hate Charmed :P
But it was the actresses desision…
