Coat tales

In Get It Done, Spike wears his old black leather coat to chase a demon. Principal Wood recognises the coat as his mother’s. We saw Spike steal the coat from Nikki Wood in Fool For Love.

      Oooh, bet Wood wasn’t happy!

    2. margybee says:

Is that the coat we see Spike wearing so much of the time?

    3. Juleshortstuff says:

Yup, it’s that long leather duster thingy. Such a big part of Spike!! I like how they had him retain things from the slayers he killed. The scar on Spike’s eyebrow is supposed to be from the first slayer (Chinese one), and the coat is his momento from the second slayer he killed.

    4. MagicBone says:

He seemed oddly un-Spike-like (ha, funny word) without it.

    5. All4Spike says:

WhatI don’t understand is this. Spike left his lovely leather duster for Xander to find at the bottom of the stairs in Buffy’s house in ‘Seeing Red’, leaving to seek his soul without it. In ‘Get it done’ when he went looking for the coat how come he went straight to the High School basement, and found it so quickly? How did it get from Buffy’s house to the school? How did he know it was there?

    6. ghola8 says:

MAYBE…Clem picked it up from Buffy’s house after Spike left, then boxed up Spike’s things for his eventual return. Yes, clearly that’s it!

    7. Mel says:

But why would Clem leave Spike’s things at the new High School ghola?

And what happened to Spike’s crypt that Clem was watching for him at the end of season 6?

    8. Wynter says:

Presumably the crypt is still there and Clem’s been living in it. It’s not too crazy to think that when Spike got his soul back and went all nuts, the First used that time to manipulate him into staying in the school basement, and more to the point, near the Hellmouth. Or, y’know, Spike just didn’t want to go back to the crypt because he associated it with too many bad memories?

I can’t think how the duster got in the school basement though. I’m assuming that Buffy kept it after Spike left, and gave it back to him in the basement (off-screen) before he moved into Xander’s, but he left it because he associated it with his “old self”. Hence him going to get it when he goes into “snarky, kick-ass” mode.

    9. TwoToGo-Grave says:

The bigger question may be why is Wood at the high school after leaving the Summers house? It’s at night, and fairly late (it must have been a while, since it was night time when Buffy gave everyone that Saint Crispen’s speech earlier on in the night).

    10. Wynter says:

TwoTwoGo, that same question bothered me when I watched this episode yesterday. But then I figured, after Spike left the house saying he “needed to get something”, Wood must have been curious as to what it was so he followed him.

    11. TwoToGo-Grave says:

      Good point. I didn’t think about that…
