Spike’s trademark is his old long black coat. To get the look, costume designers took a brand new $2000 coat and ran it over with a truck to make it look old and dirty. In the show, Spike took his coat from the second Slayer he killed - Nikki Wood in New York (Fool For Love). |

Angel’s cost $1500 I think. I got mine one sale for like %200 I think. When I die I wanna be cremated while dressed like Spike.

Also on the dvd they commented that they said to Joss that Spike took the jacket as a homage to Frank Miller’s Sin City.

That jacket can be found at any leather coat store. A friend of mine got a leather jacket that looks like the one that Jada wore in the Matrix. I believe she got hers for like 200 and then got two free leathers with the purchase! Gotta love a good sale.

That reminds me how Spike got a new coat in Angel. I know the whole “Wolfram and Hart in Italy Giving Spike Another Leather Coat” was supposed to be funny but it just made me mad that his original slayer coat was destroyed. Am I the only one?

Here here! That was Spike’s coat that he had had since season two. It was like a part of him and everything. That’s how my friends know him: “the Billy Idol looking one with the leather coat.”
Maybe it was their evil plan all along. Damn you Wolfram and Hart.

That leather duster *was* Spike, ya know what I mean? In Get it Done (7.15) Spike goes after the coat to be dangerous again. It’s part of his identity! I’m guessing that you’ve figured out by now, but I was none-to-happy about the duster destruction. You aren’t the only one, Abby!!

I luuuurved when Spike got his jacket back in Get it Done. It gave me a happy, hehe. Plus, he looked really hot walking back through the hall. But the look that Robin gave him made me want to hit him in the face. Wood, I mean, not Spike.

Honestly, I thought that that moment was very funny. I never felt that the coat “made” Spike (although it is really a cool coat), but that the qualities that he had are what made him such a great character. That’s just one opinion though.

I thought it was really funny, too. The coat’s so integral to his image that losing it should be a big deal for both Spike and fans, but then there’s the utter deflation of any chance for righteous indignation when he’s simply given a facsimile with no muss, no fuss. In an episode in which they are both already feeling insecure and replaceable by The Immortal, that his precious, character-defining coat could be replaced so easily just made me giggle before I had a chance to remind myself to be outraged. I think it’s a dig by the writers about not taking it all too seriously. Wow, I’ve really gone off one one here…
