In The Body, Buffy tells Dawn about their mother’s death, though we don’t hear what is said. The following scene shows their dialogue, from the original script:

The body is the most powerful hour of television I have ever witnessed. Anya just tears me up, she wants to do something to help so bad. She just doesn’t understand all the things we humans do for no reason other than that’s the way you’re told you should act. Start to finish, I don’t think my lips touch during the entire episode.

I recently saw this great episdoe again as well, and I must state that, personally, the scene between Buffy and Tara is the most affecting to me (Tara is my favorite character, and seeing the awkwardness for both of them is something to watch). However, it always hurts to watch Anya’s speech that the previous two posters mentioned. This is just such an amazing episode.

willow’s desperation to find the right clothes to wear just makes me ache.
and the voice overdub when the doctor in the hospital is saying that joyce probably felt no pain
i agree beagle, this episode is a singular moment in television

I think not being able to hear the dialogue in this scene and watching it through the perspective of Dawn’s classmates is a nice touch. The deathly silence, Dawn’s muted cries and her reaction is just heartbreaking.

The entire scene with the Scoobies in Willow and Tara’s dorm room had me in tears all over again when I rewatched this episode yesterday. It’s a brilliant episode but I can’t see it too many times just because it’s so sad.

    5. TwoToGo-Grave says:

One thing that always sticks out to me in this scene is the way that the teacher looks so much like Kristine Sutherland. It could just be me that thinks this, but it seems a bit odd.
