Dawn Summers

Dawn

Dawn was Buffy’s younger sister who appeared suddenly in season five with no immediate explanation (Buffy vs Dracula). Dawn was the Key, a ball of energy whose purpose was to open a portal between dimensions. The Key was under the protection of some monks who created her into a human to hide her from Glory, a powerful and evil God. The monks changed the memories of Dawn’s family and friends and they accepted her as their sister and friend (No Place Like Home). Glory was eventually defeated, but ‘the Key’ had already begun to work which forced Buffy to sacrifice her life for her younger sister, and to save the world (The Gift). Dawn became a normal girl and attended Sunnydale High, eventually being allowed to research with the Scoobies. She joined the final fight and survived (Chosen).

    1. Abby M. says:

The only reason I didn’t like Dawn was because that meant the entire 4 seasons before she came happened differently in the minds of everyone. It felt like, “Wait, you mean I just watched four years of Buffy and everyone thinks it didn’t happen that way!”

    2. Saintsaucey says:

I think thy are planning on showing those four seasons on the annimated series, at least parts of them

    3. Abby M. says:

Thats good. It’s still weird to think if Dawn is in it, that everything that is going to be in the animated series didn’t really happen in the Buffyverse (at least the way we will be shown).

    4. Dawn says:

      Great Actress…
she was so good in the episode Conversations with the dead…

The whole thing around Dawn being the key was magnificent!… she was just there.. loved the idea

    5. Seddah says:

Am I the only one who saw her as a whiny bitch who was babied too much? ^^;; I hated how when she yelled, she’d repeat something three times and on the third yell she’d screech it. ie// “Get out, get out, GET OUT!” Good lord girl, give it a rest!

    6. Seddah says:

Ha, no kidding. I’d say Dawn was my second least favourite character, and it’s almost all thinks to the screaming. *laughs* But I’m the younger sister, and I’m not whiny. Though I can be a bitch when I want ;)

    7. Seddah says:

*Laughs* No kidding. But I’d say either Kennedy or… Harmony. But with Harmony it was really love/hate. I loved her idiocy in the way that I enjoyed laughing at her, but… I really hated her XD Oh, and Jenny, I guess. Giles could do so much better XD *Cough*Olivia*cough*

    8. Seddah says:

lol Yeah, I hated Kennedy >______

    9. Abby M. says:

OK, Seddah just opened up a a friendly debat with the number one Jenny/Giles fan!

What don’t ya like about her. I get the whole ‘betray’ thing, but come on…the way she and Giles interacted, I loved it! Plus, she was great with sarcasm: Gotta love that! Also, out of the three women that Giles hooked up with on the show (Jenny, Joyce, and Olivia), she was the only one to really like him for who he was. Joyce and him only hooked up when she was a teenageer and he was teenager Ripper. And Olivia called him Ripper. She even left him when she was barely attacked by a Gentleman. Jenny was possessed by a demon Giles raised and she got over that within three weeks.

      *Ahem*, sorry, I haven’t had a good post in a while…

BTW: What does XD mean? I suck at posting lingo, I know what lol means and that’s about it..

    10. mairceridwen says:

I hate any and every form of abbreviation and acronym. after the internets got all popular, I even started writing *as soon as possible* out in its entirety.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been more spirited discussion about Jenny before.

    11. slightlyembarrased says:

      “BTW: What does XD mean?”

XD means “xenophobic dingleberry”…it is one of the lesser used acronyms.

    12. slightlyembarrased says:

I, for one, hated Dawn with a fiery passion…though, I actually thought it was amusing when she would scream “get out, get out, GET OUT”.

      Go figure.

“I’m surprised there hasn’t been more spirited discussion about Jenny before.”

Well, for what it’s worth, she seemed like she’d be a riot in the sack.

    13. Seddah says:

I just hated Jenny’s entire attitude. She was so… superior at times. It was so annoying. And I also hated how she tried to worm her way into the Scoobies.

*Laughs* XD is the symbol for a laughing face, not an acronym/abbreviation for ‘xenophobic dingleberry’.

    14. Abby M. says:

Ahh, got the whole XD thing

“And I also hated how she tried to worm her way into the Scoobies.”

I agree, but she was trying to worm her way into the scoobies. That was why she was there. But then she fell in love with Giles and at that point genuinly wanted to help. Hmm, but I don’t see where she is acting superior, where do you think she does?

    15. Seddah says:

It wasn’t necessarily her -acting- superior, (probably ‘cause I couldn’t htink of the right word XD) but she just had this little smirk that made we want to slap her really badly, *laughs* She just seemed so sure she had Giles. It bothered me. She thought too much of herself.

I felt really sorry for Giles when she was killed, though. Not ‘cause she was dead, more just because he had loved her, and I hate seeing him in emotional pain. It sucks when he’s in physical pain, but they usually make that comical, so it’s easier to laugh at than a broken heart.

    16. Abby M. says:

Yeah! Like when Angelus was torturing Giles, I could get over that. But then Drusilla turned into Jenny and for one minute in his delerious state, Giles thought he had her back…especially when she was saying “We’ll be together, we’ll have everything we never got to have…never got to feel.”…I cried…

I can agree with you about her sureness. It’s just being the person I am, that was something I alwyas liked about her.

To mair: Me too, you think we would have talked about Jenny by now.

    17. mairceridwen says:

      everyone hates a confident woman.

I loved Jenny. I loved the way she just came in and swept Giles off his flustered and discombulated feet

    18. Seddah says:

      I know. I felt so terrible for Giles. It’s surprising how many times Buffy’s made me cry, *laughs* My friends all make fun of me when we watch ‘The Gift’, because the second Spike sees her body, I cry. When he breaks down, I lose it *laughs* ^^;;

I dunno, I’m not partial to people who act like that, but then, this is me, and I just see that as arrogance. But to each their own ^_____^ (That’s a smilie face, by the way. Sorry about that, but I hate the ‘:)’ one. *laughs*)

    19. Seddah says:

I didn’t hate her confidence, I hated her arrogance.

    20. Abby M. says:

Hmm, I just can’t see where she was arrogant.

Yay! mair and I hit some common ground!

    21. Seddah says:

Like I said, it’s probably just how I view her. I just didn’t enjoy her character. Though up until about half-way through Season 7, there weren’t any other characters that had that same arrogance to them. Then Kennedy came in and acted the same way with Willow. Though less romantically in my opinion, because at least with Jenny Giles was interested in her once he saw her. Willow was a bit shaky on the whole Kennedy thing. At least at first.

    22. Abby M. says:

I don’t even want to compare Jenny to Kennedy. Kennedy had an obvious arrogance and confidence that borderlined and often did cross that line into cockiness (Faith yelling at her when Faith became leader was great, “So Kennedy, back the hell off and let me do my job!”). Jenny seemed more playful and confident enough that she played off Giles great.

Of course you are right though, these are just opinions.

    23. Seddah says:

*Laughs* Yeah, it was great. Faith got on my nerves in Season 7, but then, who didn’t? Kidding. :P

Jenny was more playful, but that didn’t endear her to me anymore than Giles loving her did. I dunno, I just couldn’t like her.

    24. Abby M. says:

Yeah, season 7 had some annoying characters didn’t it? :) I’m glad they put Andrew in though. Comical relief at it’s finest.

Yeah, the only friend of mine who really likes Jenny as much as me is my best friend…who in retrospect probably only likes her because he knows I want him too. Oh well…

    25. Seddah says:

No kidding, but yeah, I loved that Andrew was in there ^____^ But the finale was just so unfair. To Xander and because I hated the whole, ‘all the potentials are slayers now’. But for Buffy that’s a good thing. She has help carrying the ‘weight of the world’.

Hey, nothing wrong with that, *laughs* The only reason why my friends even watch Buffy is because I’m obsessed and I always show them the best episodes when they’re over.

    26. Abby M. says:

Yup, I do the same thing! My best friend only starting watching it so we would have something to talk about (and I forced him too).

    27. Seddah says:

*Laughs* That’s hilarious. My best friend only watches it because I showed her the episode ‘Gone’ and she saw mostly naked Spike. And now she only wants to watch episodes with semi-naked Spike. Much to my annoyance, *laughs* There are just so many great episodes with and without fully-clothed Spike XD

    28. Abby M. says:

Yeah, I showed my friend two episodes for his intro to Buffy to get him into it. I believe it was Once More With Feeling because he is a big chorus buff and that was the first episode I ever saw and then I think The Dark Age because he thought Giles was to stuffy. He was hooked! He had to call his mom so he could stay and watch season 1 with me. I felt accomplished!

    29. Longlostscooby says:

I have been an avid fan since the first episode of Buffy. Toward the end of season three I got a new boyfriend and made him watch it with me. Well he got hooked and from then on we always got together on Tuesday and Wednesday nights to watch Buffy and Angel.

    30. Abby M. says:

      See! Buffy: Bringing people together!

    31. Seddah says:

That’s awesome! ^____^ That was the first episode you’ve ever seen? Well, it would get me hooked, *laughs*

The first episode I ever saw was the pilot, and I was sitting there going, “This had damn well better catch on, because I loved the movie and this looks even better!”

    32. Seddah says:

“I have been an avid fan since the first episode of Buffy. Toward the end of season three I got a new boyfriend and made him watch it with me. Well he got hooked and from then on we always got together on Tuesday and Wednesday nights to watch Buffy and Angel.”

Neat ^____^ I never really got into Angel, I found it a bit… badly acted *laughs*

But yes, Buffy brings people together. ^_____^

    33. Abby M. says:

Yeah, I am watching Angel right now—literally. I am about to sign off to go watch it. I am about 16 episodes away from being done with the whole series so I hope to get it done by Christmas. Heres to hope!

    34. Seddah says:

*Laughs* Good luck! I’m sure you can do it! If I can watch all of Buffy Season 2 in two days, you can do it ^_____^ Have fun and merry Christmas!

    35. Abby M. says:

Wow, that is spooky! I did that too. I watched all of Buffy’s season 2 on a Saturday and Sunday…we are awesome!

    36. Seddah says:

      *Laughs* I concur! We are!

    37. MissKittyFantastico says:

Cool, I’ve been watching Buffy from the start to finish every couple of months for the last couple of years. This current time round, I’m nearing the end of Season 6… At the moment I get through around five to six episodes a day (because of xmas hols so no work!), and on a really good day can get about ten episodes in!! I cried last week at The Gift (even tho i must have seen it about 30 times!), and I’m getting excited about Dark Willow which is next episode for me, patricularly when Giles comes in at the end of that episode and goes “I’d like to test that theory” - YUM!!!!!!! Right… off I go…. yey!!
