I honestly don’t think that the title of “Firefly” had even been chosen at this point in time, so I don’t think that it is any sort of nod that wonderful show. I could be wrong however.

Yeah I think this is a bit of stretch, indeed. Even if the Firefly title HAD been thought out at that time, the ‘fireflies’ quote doesn’t really link.
