Glory was one of three hellgods who ruled over a demon dimension. Her power started to outstrip that of the other two and they expelled her from their dimension, by trapping her inside a human body. The idea was that she would die when the man in which she was trapped (Ben) died. Glory’s power was so great that occasionally she could take over his body, forming him to look like herself. When this happened, neither had any memory of each other’s actions. Glory’s power was limited by being in human form but she was still extremely strong. Her sanity was deteriorating from being in a new dimension, and she would ’suck’ people’s sanity from them, by plunging her hands into their head. This would leave the victim insane. Glory’s mission was to obtain the Key, in the form of Dawn, and use it to get back to her own dimension. This would involve the material of the universe being broken down and all dimensions merging into one. Buffy defeated Glory using a heavy troll’s hammer, thus weakening her to the point that Ben’s form emerged again. Giles then killed Ben, killing Glory with him. Glory… similar to Illyria? Ancient trans-dementional-goddess trapped in a human body she doesnt fit in… maybe if Illyria sucked brains she would have been able to keep all her powers.

Glory is such a tragic tale. Insaine obnoxious self-obsessed psychopath, yes, but still … tragic. What was done to her was not her fault, in a way she is like a victim. She was desperate for something, which made her very human-like. She is undoubtedly the most intriguing and fascinating villain of the series. She was so powerful, so beyond human yet very human at the core. I can’t help but feel sorry for her when she begs Buffy to stop beating her, moments before her death.

I feel you. She did in the end have human emotion take over her.

Well said, S’dale1630: Glory was by far my favorite “big bad” in the series run — funny, sexy, bitterly sarcastic (her first confrontation with Buffy is among the funniest in the series…”Hey, I just noticed you’ve got ’superpowers’…but can you fly?”) And absolutely, she was a tragic figure. After all, all she ever wanted was to go home. Can you really blame the girl?

Gotta agree with you there SlightlyEm, Glory was just fantastic. Her witty put-downs, completely self-obsessed personality, the way she is with her minions, she was definitely the best villain of the Buffyverse in my eyes. I loved the final fight, The Gift is such a powerful episode. I cry my eyes out every damn time I watch it but part of that is wih laughter! (honest)

“Hey…did you guys see that? The Slayer’s a robot…did anyone else know that the Slayer was a robot?” Genius…

Yeah! That was so funny! Another good one was the whole ‘dead bird’ thing when she was at Buffy’s house, something like: “Then BOOM! You have dead yummy birds!” Still, the whole slayer being a robot is probably my favorite line of Glory’s.

My favourite Glory bit is when her minions capture Spike and she says :
“What is that and why is it’s hair that colour?”
That was just hilarious!

I loved Glory’s minions. Their lines were hilarious:
“No one can stand against Her Blindingly Scrumptious Luminescence!”

“Lot of sucky things in this dimension — bubble baths? Not one of ‘em.”
and
“How about you shut up and listen to me, you disgusting little fools?”
- Season 5 episode Tough Love.
Love it!!
