Hostile Seventeen

Spike

Hostile Seventeen was the Initiative’s code name given to Spike after they captured him in the episode The Initiative. Interestingly, Riley told Buffy in A New Man that he had captured or killed seventeen ‘Hostile Sub-Terrestrials’ (or HSTs, the Initiative name given to demons).
In Where the Wild Things Are, Spike goes to a party held by the Initiative boys. Xander calls out, “Hey! What a surprise! hostile 17! Can I get you a drink Hostile 17?”
In Goodbye, Iowa, Riley recognises Spike as Hostile 17. Spike attempts to fake an accent to disguise himself but gives up.
In The Killer in Me, when Buffy has Spike’s chip removed, the Initiative soldier calls Spike Hostile 17. In Lessons, Adam refers to Spike as “Number 17″.

he pretends to fake an american accent while faking an english one. i loved it. best thing ever.

    2. Jet says:

p.s. while actually being american. well..it was more of a southern accent which i don’t think james marsters is.

    3. AnyaRocks says:

i thought he was trying for an irish accent…just me then?

    4. mairceridwen says:

just you. although I don’t think he’s going for a specific accent as much as trying to mask his own. when he talks in real life (interviews) he accentuates his r’s a bit and it reminds me of that scene and cracks me up.

    5. Wynter says:

Riley recognises Spike for the first time in Doomed though, where Spike does the hilarious mock American accent and even says almost exactly the same thing: “Umm, no sirr, I’m just a friend of Xanderrr’s”.

I find it a bit odd though that Riley would recognise Spike as Hostile 17 in this episode when the first time round it completely bypasses him. Stupid man.

    6. Longlostscooby says:

I cracked up laughing when the soldier in The Killer in Me called Spike Assface. Saying those were Rileys exact words.

    7. Longlostscooby says:

I spoke to James Marsters once, he has no accent.

    8. Wynter says:

You would think that though because you’re from California too! Whenever I hear him speak, he has an accent.

    9. Wynter says:

Ok, just rewatched Where The Wild Things Are and I gotta say, Initiative soldiers are stupid. Another one barely recognises Spike, AND Xander yells out “Hostile 17″ in a roomful of them and not one hears takes any notice. They’re so bloody dim.
