In Help, Willow asks, “Do you really think she’s some kind of pre-cog?”. This could be a reference to the 2002 movie Minority Report starring Tom Cruise and directed by Steven Spielberg. The movie features three “pre-cogs” who help the police force by telepathically predicting murders before they happen. |

And the full word is “precognitive,” meaning clairvoyant. The full word has been in use in the social sciences for quite a while.

The timing is tricky. The film “Minority Report” was released in the U.S. on June 21, 2002. This Buffy episode aired October 15, 2002, would have been produced much earlier than that, and written even earlier than that. It’s possible that the reference was to the original Philip K. Dick short story (published in the 1950s), in which the term “pre-cog” also appears. Or, I suppose the dialog could have been inserted into shooting at the last minute to capitalize on the popularity of the movie.

The first time I heard that line I had a flashback to that movie. That terrible, terrible movie. *Laughs*
