i think deleting this scene was a huge mistake. without this scene the comment dawn makes after buffy saves her from the train makes no sense at all.here’s the line:
“What am I, gonna compete with you? You’re older, and hotter, and have sex that’s rough and kill people. I don’t have any of that stuff.” plus this conversation would have been a nice developpement in the buffy-dawn relationship. confiding this with her would mean that buffy regards dawn as more of a grown up than she previously has. plus..the “i should have killed her when i had the chance” bit is really funny.

I agree. At first I didn’t like the exchange but it would have brought Dawn and Buffy closer.

Does anyone know what part of the episode this would have been in? I’m having trouble placing it. I wish I could have seen them act it out, it’s not the same reading it.
I had always wished that they had had a talk about Spike’s rape attempt…it just seemed to go away too fast, and considering that Dawn’s inclination toward the undead is rather like her sisters, it seems like there are life lessons she needs to hear from her to avoid getting into a lot of trouble one day.

it would have been right at the begining, when dawn and buffy are talking in the bleachers, when dawn asks buffy what are her feelings for spike. before she unveils the true meaning of life..u know.. painting beautiful murals on ugly walls.. i loved that :)

P.S. i got that from the shooting script, it’s not just a shot in the dark. here:
DAWN
(sincere)
No. I’m trying to understand. I
mean, nothing makes sense. First you
say Spike disgusts you but, secretly,
you two are doing it like bunnies.
And Spike says he’d die for you, but
he tries to rape you.
(then/hesitant)
And I’m even trying to understand
that. A little. The rape part. [..]

Thanks so much! That makes a lot of sense now.

I think what Buffy says about killing Anya was funny.
