Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah

Sarah Michelle Gellar played Buffy Summers. Sarah was born on April 14, 1977. She was ‘discovered’ by an agent when she was just 4 years old whilst eating in a local restaurant. She then starred in various commercials as a child actor and in 1993, she was cast as Kendall Hart in All My Children, which led to her winning a Daytime Emmy. She announced her departure the day after the awards ceremony. Sarah was offered the role of Juliet in Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 movie Romeo + Juliet but had to turn it down because of scheduling conflicts with All My Children. Her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer opened doors for her, and she has now starred in movies such as Cruel Intentions, Scream 2, Scooby Doo, Harvard Man and The Grudge. Her current projects include movies Happily N’Ever After, Alice and Richard “Donnie Darko” Kelly’s Southland Tales.
Sarah’s interests include Tae Kwon Do (in which she has a brown belt), kickboxing, boxing, gymnastics and ice skating, all of which she has used at some time during the filming of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sarah is a big fan of Dr. Seuss. She collects rare books (especially rare editions of classic children’s literature), and platinum and diamond jewellery.
Sarah is married to fellow Scooby Doo actor Freddie Prinze Jr.

I can think of plenty of actresses who could have acted circles around Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy Summers. At times she’s strong, but by neer means superb. Then again, the only acting on the show that comes close to superb is Anthony Stewart Head’s, James Marster’s, and Alyson Hannigan’s (except for season seven). Emma Caulfield is up there too.

    2. Dawn says:

I think everyone did a great job with their part (all the leading roles)
even Marc Blucas who played Riley did a good job but I just dont liked his character that much…

but I could have not seen anyone else in one of those roles…

    3. TwoToGo-Grave says:

I personally think that James Marsters, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Michelle Trachtenberg are the best actors, but that’s just one opinion. Marc Blucas is a better actor now, but for most of his run on the show (especially early on), he was awful. I guess everyone has to gain experience to improve.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Emma Caufield is a brilliant comic actress. It’s odd, I’ve seen absolutely nothing of her since one of the Bringers sliced her in half…Of course, if she was truly a “method” actress, maybe she allowed herself actually to be cut in half and is still recovering…Now THAT’S giving it your all….

Tom Lenk was great in that role, but it was sort of a “one-trick pony” gig.

    5. slightlyembarrased says:

Has anyone seen “Bandwagon” with Emma Caufield? It sounds as if it has not been distributed, but according to the comments at imdb, it was quite good, and Emma a standout:

I’ve been thinking about this for a bit and… At this point in the evening (just got back from watching/listening to my friends play music, meaning I’ve had a few) I can’t separate the actors from the characters. And isn’t that the ultimate compliment? You know what; think I’ll go watch Dopplegangland….

    7. TwoToGo-Grave says:

What really makes that shot of Spike breaking down and crying in The Gift seems to be the voiceover, where Buffy says “You’ve got to be strong” as he’s crying. That moment is just so affecting, at least to me.

    8. somethingblue says:

It might be that Willow and Xander thought they could bring her back, but I was really crying watching that scene, I felt like Spike felt and I kind of felt that Xander and Willow had this sort of dead pan look about them, not matching the emotion of the scene. I wonder if Joss Whedon wanted it played that way? I wish I was one of his best friends and could just call him up and say “hey, buddy, what WERE you thinking with the lack of emotion in that scene by her best friends?!?”…but then maybe he wouldn’t be my best friend anymore if I talked to him like that, probably not, I’m a little outspoken….

    9. beagle says:

I always thought Will and Xander were pretty much in shock. So great was their devastation that they couldn’t immediately react. Isn’t denial like the first stage of mourning?

    10. TwoToGo-Grave says:

They couldn’t have thought that quickly to bring her back, especially not Xander. I think that beagle is right here; they were in shock.

    11. somethingblue says:

Maybe shock, and everyone reacts differently to horrific experiences, it just didn’t feel right from my perspective (but then again, I’m pretty emotional!)

    12. mairceridwen says:

s’blue is being awfully harsh. I think their look of shock is much more affecting than one big sobfest.

    13. mairceridwen says:

      okay…not harsh…sorry

    14. somethingblue says:

s’okay, not taken personally. Shock just didn’t do it for me, is all. I was left feeling a little cheated, but that’s just my opinion.

    15. slightlyembarrased says:

If there was one truly cold emotional response, no TWO, they were in “Chosen”: Xander’s lack of affect at news of Anya’s death and, franlkly, Buffy hardly seemed too broken up over Spike buying the farm….

I realized that it was the final shot of the series, and it would have made things a little tricky if Xander and Buffy were bawling their eyes out, but…hey…a moment for the two dead peeps would be nice…

    16. Dawn says:

yeah I was surprised that no one else except Xander asked about Anya…

    17. slightlyembarrased says:

“yeah I was surprised that no one else except Xander asked about Anya…”

      The self-involved little sh*ts….

    18. Abby M. says:

First of all, slightlyembarrased: Great use of censoring! :)

In The Gift, I always thought Spike crying was showing how really in love with Buffy he was. He killed 2 slayers in his life so he knew in the end that Buffy could die and he accepted her death right then. Xander and Willow had seen Buffy escape death time and time again so to see her dead like that, they didn’t really believe it. As previously mentioned, they were in shock. I’m sure they were bawling later.

I like how Joss had Spike crying and Xander and Willow just kinda standing there. Spike’s crying just tore my heart up, it showed just how much he cared for Buffy in a different way then Xander and Willow. They just had to absorb it: Their best friend just really died. Anyway, I reacted how Xander and Willow did: I just kind of sat in my living room and then cried. And then I realized I had season 6 waiting for me and got excited!

When alyson cries I always cry no matter what, because she’s s great at it!

    20. Longlostscooby says:

I read that Amber Tamblyn was going to be in the Grudge 2 as the sister of SMG’s character and that she herself will have a brief appearance.

    21. The_True_Xander says:

SMG has only signed on to do a very brief little scene, where she gets killed. She won’t be the star of The Grudge 2. Very sad…

    22. i_luv_spike says:

Happy Birthday Sarah! (she turns 29 today)
