In Reptile Boy, Willow makes a good point on noticing Angel’s lack of reflection. How does he shave? Perhaps his hair doesn’t grow? We also learn in this episode that vampires have an amazing ability to smell blood. |

His hair does grow. We saw him with a beard in a couple of flash-backs. Not pretty, by the way.

And yet, when Angel is “buried at sea” by his son in “Angel”, he emerges three months later, with not so much as a five-o’clock shadow and his hair the same length. Perhaps the salt water inhibits hair growth…yeah, right…

Vampires can grow facial hair, and maybe Angel’s hair didn’t grow when he was underwater because vampire hair might grow a lot slower than normal hair.

Spike was tortured by the First for what seemed like a long time (over the holiday break from new episodes), but he wasn’t stubbly by the time Buffy rescued him. No roots in his peroxided locks either, for that matter, as in 7.1 Lessons.

I just always assumed their hair just didn’t grow anymore. Where would they go to get the hair cut and have no one notice thier lack of reflection?

Does anyone know the ages of Angel and Spike when they were sired. If they were young they may not have had the ability to grow a full beard yet and maybe why it takes so long now.

I know that Angel was 26 when he was sired. You see this in the Angel episode The Prodigal when you see Angel’s funeral.
His headstone reads: 1727 - 1753 Beloved Son
I don’t know about Spike though.

i just assumed vamps couldnt grow their hair, they are dead, though i do remember seeing angle with a bad moustache… but yeah, spike dont het re-growth, also, he has horrible finger nails, i assumed they didnt grow either. looking back dru & darla’s hair got abit shorter, but never longer, may-b they are scared to cut it thinking it would never grow back… everything points to the idea it cant grow except for angel’s goatee, for reasons of consistancy, lets just say it was fake & he stuck it on…

I think we can tell by the fact that Angel and Spike are not youngsters, pre-teens, or even teenagers that they were old enough to shave when they were sired.
I think it’s a goof.

besides some goofs I.E. Spike when he was captured and Angel underwater)there is a very simple explination. YOU DONT need a mirror to shave. Being a male of shaveing age I tested it out and shaved for a month without a mirror and had no problem. And maby Angel underwater he didn’t grow hair cuz he had no blood and was basicaly in a suspended animation state untill wesley feed him.

I think thats a bit of a shotty mistake, coz we all now hair doesnt grow after your dead, coz basically, the body stops, but then again, the vampires aren’t always following the laws of science, or they would be a rotting corpse, and that wouldnt be very appealing when they are trying to seduce thier meal. so i geuss that the hair does grow.

I thought your hair and nails keep growing after you die because they are made up of dead cells to begin with. Perhaps someone should Google this.

I believe the post mortem growth of hair and nails is a misconception. The shrinking and retracting of the skin around the nails and hair produce this illusion.

I didn;t think so but I’m not sure. We do however know that vampires still retain some qualities of the living. We have seen evedence of hair growth of vampires. Spikes hair when he was hideing in the basment of the school had his dark roots. Angelus grew a mustash once. The hair does grow but like I said b4 U don’t need to see your self to shave. I have done it many many many times. There was a point where the bathroom sink had brocken and I had to shave while in the shower whice had no mirror and I did it just fine. Willow, may just not have been aware how easy it is for a male to shave without seeing himself.

Vampires seem to be supernational creatures, so anything that is the case with them can be understood in that it is not understandable (from a scientific, etc. viewpoint). In the mediocre crossover vehicle ‘I Will Remember You’, Doyle states to Angel that everything feels real, ‘because you’re real’, which can serve as the best example of this notion that I can think of right now. Clearly most of their functions work, or else they couldn’t walk or talk, much less have hair grow.
Also, I must agree with Cyrax. I have shaved many a time without using a mirror. It’s typically easy (except that I wind up missing spots and looking pretty goofy, but still…).
