Tara or new shoes?

Joss Whedon spoke at the Wizard World convention in Chicago in August 2004 about his original plans for bringing the character of Tara back:

“In one of the final episodes, the third to last episode, Buffy was going to basically get a ‘get out of jail free’ card. One completely reality-altering things that she could have - she could bring Angel back to her, she could do anything she wanted. At the end of the episode she basically comes to Willow and says ‘Look at these shoes I got!’ and Willow’s, like, ‘What?’ ‘I got these really awesome shoes. I wanted them, and now I have them!’ and Willow’s like ‘You… used… the wish… for shoes?’ and Buffy says ‘Of course not, you idiot,’ and walks out of the room and Willow turns around and Tara’s standing behind her.”

She could have had Angel back? Well wouldnt he have just gone all bad again, or have a missed something?

    2. Blondie-Bear says:

Grr, that would ahve been awesome if she could have come back

    3. Oriana says:

Oh my god, I feel this weird nostalgic feeling just thinking about it.
It would have been great to see Tara back, even if it was done in such an easy way (by just wishing). And I find the whole shoes thing very amusing. I can just see Buffy saying “of course not, you idiot”.

    4. ant4buffy says:

That would have been a well good idea. Should have been implemented. Would have loved to see Willow’s face. And then there would be a kind of love triangle with her, Tara and Kennedy. Brilliant.

    5. ShiGurl says:

Kennedy is great, but a chance with Willow and Tara, it makes me want to cry that it didn’t happen!

    6. Rozzi says:

      Jeez, that blows

    7. Charlene says:

As much as i love Amber i’m glad this never happened as it would have taken away alot of the impact previous episodes had on us, such as: Grave,Conversations with dead people,The killer in me,Touched and many more.

    8. Abby M. says:

I think it would have even made those episodes have even more of an impact because she did all that stuff, but has Tara back so she has the guilt of doing all those things, yet she gets her back. Makes all those things she did even worse.

To Shibbydm: She probably would have wished for him to be human (so that ‘happiness clause’ wouldn’t matter anymore) or even that he could have happiness and not lose his soul. She doesn’t remember what happened the last time that occured so she doesn’t know how that would affect her.

It would have been cool if this happened, oh well.

    9. WilliamOhByte1885 says:

I had to re read this many times, my eyes sting, and I was being very blonde momented…… .. damn, Yeah, I miss tara too… I do not like “Kenny”, one bit….till chosen, then i started to half like her, but I love amber benson as tara better, shy and sly. yep..

    10. buffy_freak says:

awwww i think it wold have been great if amber had come back!!!!! but im not sure if i would have liked her to stay to the end i think it might have been a bit weird and i really liked kenedy.

    11. Skuhm says:

I’m in two minds (?) with this. On the one hand, I would have loved Tara and Willow to be together again… And I think it would have been pretty simple to solve the scene without Amber. Imagine this: Buffy says “Of course not you idiot”. Then turns and she says “You can come in!”. Cut to Willow’s face. At first she’s justr astonished. Then her face wrinkles as tears start to form on her eyes. She barely says “Tara…” Fade to end credits.

Wow I get really sad just thinking of it =(

But as I said, I’m in two minds about it. Sometimes I think too many resurrections make a show (or a comic or whatever) cheaper. And Buffyverse is magical, so there’s always the danger, script-wise, of using magic as a plot device to justify everything.

    12. mairceridwen says:

I agree with both of Skuhm’s minds.

    13. Dawn says:

Too bad they didnt brought Amber back in the show…
I love her, she played Tara so wonderfull…
the relation between Willow and Tara is the best on screen relationship ever… my opinion ;)

    14. hannah_wish01 says:

aww, just reading that makes me wanna cry, how sad, and what a lovely thing that would have been for buffy to give to willow…aww im welling up lol!!

    15. MissKittyFantastico says:

lol, me too. Willow’s face upon seeing Tara would’ve been so amazing. Although I do think it’s a good job they didn’t follow through with this idea coz it would’ve been a bit, well, silly, but seeing Tara together with Willow again would’ve been fantastic.

    16. AnyaRocks says:

I don’t think it would’ve been so silly if Kennedy wasn’t in the picture. I mean, she was getting so close to her, then Tara shows up. It’s break everyone’s heart. I’d rather have Tara than Kennedy, though.

    17. MissKittyFantastico says:

Yeah you’re right - I’d much rather have had Tara there than Kennedy. I’m not a huge fan of Kennedy (I don’t think many people on here are!) but I don’t think she was all that bad. If anything I was just glad to see Willow in a relationship again and Kennedy made her happy so that makes me happy :o)

    18. mairceridwen says:

I’m crushing you! I’m crushing your head!

    19. MissKittyFantastico says:

      Noooooo !!

    20. ormaybemidgets says:

What would they have done with Tara during the fight? I mean, she tries, but she’s not a Scooby (been doing it for years) or a potential (strong through the magic of a plot hole). So she either would have died-again-(NOOOOOO) or she would have left town. Third option: she could just be upstairs hangin’ with Willow, but that’s not very final fight-y.

    21. mairceridwen says:

I think Tara could have held her own in a fight. She has before.

    22. mairceridwen says:

      …being a witch and all…

    23. MissKittyFantastico says:

Yeah - she did ok in Bargaining when she saved Willow from getting killed by that hellion demon.

Tara’s attempt at demonstrating her punching skills - when Willow thinks she’s swimming - make me laugh every time!

    24. slightlyembarrased says:

Swim Boxing is an overlooked sport.

    25. MissKittyFantastico says:

lol… I’m gonna sign up for some swimboxing classes - new year’s resolution !!

    26. hannah_wish01 says:

lol yes maybe get in some swimboxing before it gets too popular lol!

    27. MissKittyFantastico says:

*gush* tara was so lovely :o(

    28. NotFadeAway says:

The idea of bringing Tara back in this fashion is so lame, cheesy, and just plain stupid. However, I still badly wish they had done it, just so we could get to see Tara again. She’s easily my favorite character from the show (or any show, or movie, or anything else) after all, so I would have been very happy to see her show up again. Then we could always accept that she’s alive and well and happy(I know she’s just a fictional character, but still…)

    29. bingo says:

Wouldnt it be great if there was a one off…(every month ) episode….just to catch up with what Buffys being doing …how many hellmouths shes closed etc…and Tara could be brought back into those…and it would be new and exciting episodes to watch?!?!?!?

    30. Mysteryend says:

I didn’t like Kenedy. Willows and Kenedys “realationship” wasnt about love On the other hand Willow and Tara’s was pure sweet love. Anyone in their right mind would have wanted Tara and Willow back together….
Kenedy is one of the reasons Season 7 is my least favourite
      *Hates Kenedy*

    31. TwoToGo-Grave says:

But had they gotten back (and had Tara been brought back), it would have cheapened what we had seen at the end of season six. Death must be real; it’s not something like Alias where nobody is ever in real danger (We were made to believe that Sloan had died three times, for example). I love Tara as much as anyone (and far more than most), but seeing her back for the final couple of hours would have been wrong, and it would have cause her death and the consequences from that (and reactions to that) to feel cheap.

    32. Mysteryend says:

I agree with you TwoToGO-Grave. I still would have loved to see Tara again even in some weird twist were she was only allowed to for 24 hours or something.
Tara is one of my favourite Characters and we all love her but her coming back would have been as you said “Cheap”
