Seeing as they have no reflection, one might assume that vampires would be a bit tricky to capture on film (or video). Yet, it appears to be perfectly possible. We first discovered this in Halloween when Spike watched Buffy’s fighting technique via video tape, and Andrew later videos Spike in Storyteller. Likewise, in Helpless, Zachary Kralik was able to photograph himself. |

Cordy in Angel episode “Are you now or have you ever been?”:
“It’s not that vampires don’t photograph. It’s just that they don’t photograph well.”

Joss has said that he doesn’t care about the mythology so much - so vamps hair can grow. In other stories they are completely dead. but this is Joss’ World.

Most modern cameras do not use mirrors to take pictures/record, so the lack of reflection does not cause a problem.
To be more specific, most 35mm (multi-use) cameras still use mirrors to bounce the image up to the viewfinder. That mirror then flips out of the way, blocking the viewfinder and revealing the unexposed film for the duration that the shutter is open. So technically, while framing the picture, you wouldn’t be able to see the vampire because it’s a reflection into the viewfinder. But once you take the picture, it’d be an image going straight through the lens and onto the film. (Additionally, some have a viewfinder that goes straight through the body of the camera - most point-and-clicks and digitals are like this, in which case… no mirrors at all.) If I were doing a vampire’s portrait, I’d just open it up to a greater depth of field and put the camera on auto-focus. Just because I can’t see the vampire through the view doesn’t mean the camera can’t focus on its own, since the camera’s lens-eye has no problem seeing the vamp, even if the mirror is negating my view.

I have always wondered why Spike had to re-bleach his hair so I guess it does grow otherwise there would be no regrowth. Also in Interview with a vampire Claudias hair comes back when cut off.

Just think if Joss hadn’t implemented this idea though. Every vampire would have to be bald unless they had only just been sired. Probably not the best thing for his actors.

Maybe it was Dru’s idea for Spike to bleach his hair. Either way, Dru would have done it for him.

Vampire’s hair does grow, as can be seen in Season 7 when Spike’s bleached blonde has grown out. However facial hair’s a different story - flashbacks have shown Angelus with some truly appalling ‘taches, but when Angel was sunk to the bottom of the sea for 3 months, he didn’t have so much as a 5 o’clock shadow.
