Watcher’s Retreat

There is a Watcher’s Retreat held annually in The Cotswolds, mentioned in Faith, Hope and Trick. There are lectures and other activities including riding, hiking, punting, and kayaking. It is a great honour to be invited to the Retreat, though for some reason, Giles has never been. Joss Whedon has said about this, “Giles was not invited BEFORE because he was a rebel. He’s not invited NOW coz he’s too busy.”

    1. Hydrant says:

The Deeper Well, mentioned in Angel, is also in The Cotswolds.

    2. Esual says:

Joss’s reason for Giles not going still seems a bit vague. Why would they let a rebel man such a Ripper be a watcher anyway (even if his family has a history of Watcher-ing, the council doesn’t seem to be the sort of place that would let Ripper in. they got rid of Gwendolyn after she miss used dark magic, and Ripper was doing that all the time!)? Especially a Watcher to the slayer at the time.

    3. Mel says:

Giles rebelled when he found out he had a calling. He wasn’t bad or evil, just couldn’t accept what he had to do at the time.

Once he realised this, he became the Giles we know and love.

    4. Abby M. says:

Are you supposed to think he found out his destiny was to be a watcher or the watcher of the slayer?
