[1.01-38.21] What’s a slayer?

Goof seen in: Welcome to the Hellmouth at 38.21

Darla doesn’t seem to know what a Slayer is but we know from future Buffy and Angel episodes (such as Fool For Love) that she does. She should have known straight away that Buffy is the Slayer.

It also seems strange that Darla seems to be a scared little vampire when she’s telling Luke that Buffy killed Thomas in the crypt. Later the Master says that Darla was his favorite and she also is supposed to be a brutal killer.

    2. angelinvestigations says:

you never know with Darla, she could have just been playing dumb.

    3. marvin21st says:

Thats what I think to she seems to be playing the dumb little school girl.

    4. Lilwenn says:

I think at that point Darla wasn’t supposed to become such a significant character, was she? Maybe they just hadn’t created all of her “life story” yet (or Angel(us)’s, for that matter).
The dumb Darla of first season always unnerves me. She doesn’t “match” with the Darla we see later in the series (and in Angel, mostly).

    5. ant4buffy says:

Joss says on the commentary that they were going to kill Darla in the pilot but they liked her so much that they wanted to bring her back.

    6. marvin21st says:

I was just thinking back to the flash back episodes in buffy and angel when spike killed the slayer in china he tells all of the group so darla definatly knew what a slayer was she must have been playing dumb.

    7. Dhoffryn85 says:

They redid a lot of things like that, like in the epi. when spike trys to over-run sunnydale high he tells angel that angel was his sire …. but we later find out that is drusila… they redid a lot of things

    8. mairceridwen says:

That wasn’t a re-do, apparentley *sire* can be used to refer to your sire’s sire. In that scene he refers to Angel as his obi-wan, like a mentor, I think he’s referring to the once tight, almost family-like unit that they had, wherein Angelus was *technicall* Spike’s Grandsire, if there can be such a thing

    9. Dhoffryn85 says:

that’s a bit wanky. dang joss and his crazy , crazyness!

    10. Rozzi says:

i’ve never before heard the noun “wanker” used as an adjective
