[2.02-02.25] The empty grave

Goof seen in: Some Assembly Required at 02.25

There are a few errors when Buffy falls into the open grave. Firstly, the walls of the grave seem to be too neat to have been dug with shovels. Secondly, why did Chris and Eric leave the grave uncovered and the coffin open? It would be too easy to find out there had been grave-robbing going on. Lastly, there is no earth next to the grave - did Chris and Eric take it with them?

The grave was still uncovered because they’d just pulled the girl out and taken her to their car when the arrival of someone (maybe Buffy?) interrupted them. They were planning to go back and refill the grave when the coast was clear, but Buffy and Angel found it first.

I assume this is more or less what happened because the boys apparently covered the other grave, the one that Giles and Xander dug up later in order to see if it still had its occupant.

Or maybe the boys didn’t refill any of the graves, and the cemetary operators did. People in Sunnydale have a propensity for ignoring creepy stuff. The cemetary operators wouldn’t want the public to know that their cemetary was “unsafe.”

If it’s possible to explain away an inconsistency, it’s not a goof.

you only explained away a small part of it. where is all the earth from the grave?

      Maybe they ate it?
