[2.15-13.12] Werewolf contradiction

Goof seen in: Phases at 13.12

The Buffyverse contradicts itself in the Buffy episode Phases and the Angel episode ‘Unleashed‘. In Phases, the werewolf hunter Caine talks about skinning werewolves for their pelts, ripping out teeth once he’s killed them and it being “harder to skin them if they’re still alive.” Yet in Unleashed, it is specifically mentioned that werewolves revert to human state when dead and the wolf that Angel kills immediately reverts back to a human.

I thought it was a speical kind of wearwolf on angel, or does that not matter with the wolfs reverting back to human form, i’m confused

    2. ant4buffy says:

There was no special kind of werewolf mentioned.
Ooh. another point that i thought of. Jess, the first time Nina transforms she takes ages. i remember you saying in a goof that how come Oz managed to change so quickly and in Phases it was a long drawn out process. If this makes any sense then i think i have a point somewhere in all of this. Maybe the longer you have the werewolf “disease” the quicker it is to change into it? thought that was a valid point.

    3. Jess says:

Ant4Buffy - thanks, that’s a good point. I still haven’t seen Unleashed. I missed a few episodes of season 5 of Angel last year BUT my DVD arrived only yesterday so I’ll take a look tonight. Love the way that fans make up their own mythology!

    4. Jess says:

Just watched ‘Unleashed’ and the werewolf in that episode is indeed a rare kind. The Wolfram and Hart specialist says it stands on its hind legs and Wesley says something about it reverting to its human form upon death. Thinking back too - in Wild At Heart, when Oz-wolf killed Veruca she didn’t change back into her human self. So, well spotted, Geordies05!

    5. ant4buffy says:

Wow. i didn’t remember that bit. Kudos to you Geordies05. Now i feel stupid

    6. Puja says:

Good call Geordie. However, as I remember, the Angelverse seemed to take it that all werewolves must be eaten alive because they turn back to human form. When Fred asks the doctor what the difference is between their werewolf and the normal kind, you would’ve thought he’d mention about the morphing back on death being different.

      The over-analytical Puja.

    7. Saintsaucey says:

okay, poin in fact, (not sure if that phrase fits here but what the hell) wouldn’t it be hard to skin a ware wolf and get its fur, if the thing died and reverted back to its human form. Maybe thats what caine meant

    8. Saintsaucey says:

ok i totally screwed that up. but it was a diff version of a wearwolf in the angel ep

    9. enlightendboy says:

sorry i might not b as big a buff as every1 else here, but in one episode of angel, where the people want to eat werewolf, they can only eat this special bred of wolf while its alive because it reverts back to human once killed, so then angel give him the bad guy who has been scratched and says and in a months time, you’ll have one… hope that intrests you… also in a really old 80s werewolf movie i saw, “silver bullet” the man, who knows he is the wolf and is happy to kill, is shot with the bullet in wolf form, and then reverts back to human upon death, and in the 6th harry potter book, a werewolf bites some while in human form, cause he is still evil, kinda like veruca, and yeah they are unsure if he bit person is infected… hope that stirs some conversation, id like some research into the “genuine” myth of the werewolf to find what older texts have to say
