That’s like a part of Faith’s rant in This Year’s Girl when Faith is telling Joyce about how Buffy doesn’t care about her (or herself) anymore.

I always wondered about what would have happened with Joyce during Hush. However, in one of the season 5 featurettes on the last DVD, Kristine Sutherland mentions that she was out of the country during most of season 4, so they probably would have included Joyce in this episode if Kristine had been available. Still, they could have had Buffy writing to the Scoobies on her write-on-wipe-off board that she checked in on her mom and she was okay, or that she was out of town or something.

Sometimes they shoot the scenes then don’t have time to show them. They might have decided that showing Joyce was not as important as some of the other stuff.
