Spike’s journey

Buffy

How did Spike get all the way to Uganda in Africa in the timespan between Seeing Red and Villains? We know from Surprise that he can’t travel by plane. Angel says it’s too difficult as vampires have no way of controlling direct sunlight on a plane. If he went by ship it would take him weeks to get to Africa from California - and I’m sure there aren’t too many ships making that journey.

Then again, this is Spike we’re talking about, who has never been as logical as Angel. It is highly possible that he caught a night plane over there, feeling that it was a risk worth taking

    2. ant4buffy says:

Good point. I like that. Being spike he may even hide away in the cargo hold like Kendra does in Season 2.

    3. Jess says:

I watched the Angel episode ‘A Hole in the World’ again last night and in that, Spike tells Angel he’s never flown before. The plot thickens!

    4. ant4buffy says:

could have nicked a ship? aha! i win. (probably not)

    5. vegan_ian says:

Angel and Spike actually do travel by plane in the AtS episode ‘A Hole in the World’. So vampires can take planes, but they probably have to be fitted with special glass, like I’m sure Angel’s W&H jet was.

    6. Jess says:

That was definitely a Wolfram and Hart plane, with special glass.

    7. slightlyembarrased says:

Considering Spike doesn’t return to Sunnydale until the falling Fall (thus giving him ample time to travel by virtually any mode to and back from Africa), I think it is safe to assume that the writer’s, while showing us his battles to regain his soul contemporaneously to the showdown between Buffy and “the Trio”, did not necessarily mean to suggest that it was taking place at the exact same time. As a motorcyclist, what I find even more distressing is: What did he do with his bike!!?!?

    8. Jess says:

Ah, good point, slightlyembarrased. I was probably taking that episode too literally in my desparation to find goofs in season six!

    9. Saintsaucey says:

yeah the airplain in hole in the world and shells and the girl in question do have neccro tempered glass. good point though, about it might not have been during the same time as the willow smack down

    10. Nuke67 says:

In season 5 when Xander and Spike goes and see’s the demon Doc about a way to stop glory he mentions using a teleportation spell when Doc mentions a a man in China to see, it is possibe that was used to get him to africa fast.

    11. Wynter says:

Ok, I know this is going to sound REALLY stupid but when I first saw this episode I had no idea Spike went to Africa to get the soul. Seriously, I thought he just travelled cross-country to some desert somewhere. Nothing gave it away - not the tribal language or anything. I only found out when afterwards I read stuff and of course there were mentions of his journey to Africa and I was like “…the hell?!” Am I the ONLY person in the world dumb enough to miss that? I really think so.

    12. TwoToGo-Grave says:

I didn’t realize it either, if it helps at all.

Also, I read the comment from slighlyembarrassed (who, if you weren’t around the BTG then, used to make more posts on the BTG than anybody before leaving the site forever) that said that it may not have taken place at the same time. That is what I have long assumed was the case as well. There’s no reason for it be have to be going on at the same time; they need to show it happen, and this way works as good as any, it seems.

    13. asdf says:

Maybe he had Anya teleport him there.
