Suffocation: The in way to kill?

In Graduation Day (Part 2), Mayor Wilkins attempts to suffocate Buffy using his hand in the Sunnydale hospital after he learns that Buffy nearly killed Faith putting her into a coma; however Angel stops him. After Buffy defeats Glory, Giles suffocates Ben (Glory’s human side) in The Gift in the same manner that the Mayor used.

It also may be asubtle comparison between Giles and the Mayor. They both were father -figures towards slayers, and they both were sort of villian-esque, allbeit the Mayor much more villan-y then Giles. But he did kill Ben, who was, after all , an innocent.

    2. Abby M. says:

But a mean, selfish innocent who chose his own life over Dawn’s. I do realize he did kill a human with a soul but in the end Ben went to Glory’s side. I always wondered why people got so freaked out about Giles killing Ben. Plus, we know he had killed someone before (He had to kill Randall but it was still a murder).

    3. mairceridwen says:

      Ben wasn’t an innocent.

    4. somethingblue says:

I think the ruckus was because he was human, not demon. He wasn’t an innocent, but still human and Buffy and Giles usually felt humans should be dealt with by human laws. But since he was partially Glory, Giles couldn’t let him live.

    5. slightlyembarrased says:

Calling Ben a “human” is a bit of an oversimplification. Ben was a human who housed an insane, meglomaniacal hell-god. The only way to kill Glory was to kill her quasi-human host.

    6. somethingblue says:

Hey, that’s what I just said! Geez. But he was a human vessel for Glory. And I said Giles had to kill him because he was half Glory…No yelling at the s’blue today!

    7. Abby M. says:

Wow, I am not messing with s’blue today, or any other day for that matter!

Yeah, I agree. Whenever I talk to people about it, they go on and on about how Ben was human and what Giles did was vicious. I agree in the long run it was still murder but it was still a murder that needed to be done and Giles took it upon himself to kill Ben so Buffy or the others wouldn’t have to. Pretty brave and compassionate—in a morbid kind of way.

    8. somethingblue says:

Also, icky with the suffocation. I know I wouldn’t want to hold anyone’s nose and mouth closed to kill them. Ewww.

    9. slightlyembarrased says:

I, for one, think Giles killed Ben because Ben was a good-looking man, and Giles didn’t like the competition…just a theory….

    10. Abby M. says:

      What?! I missed something…

    11. slightlyembarrased says:

” I know I wouldn’t want to hold anyone’s nose and mouth closed to kill them.”

So, s’blue…then exactly which method do use to kill your victims?

    12. slightlyembarrased says:

Abby…would you please stop making all these pointless posts….?!?!?

    13. Abby M. says:

Were you suggesting a Buffy/Giles shipper up there?

    14. somethingblue says:

I try to drive them to do the deed themselves with my witty anger and mean behavior…or I guess I just think pretty much any killing is icky, unless you count the time my sister and I had to kill a snake in my mom’s flower shop with a shovel………no, that was still very icky.

    15. slightlyembarrased says:

Oh, Abby…you just KNOW Giles would have been all over that had he been given the chance….

    16. slightlyembarrased says:

Killing a snake with a shovel in a flower shop….hmmm…Paging Dr. Freud!

    17. Abby M. says:

Ahh!!! No, that is a mental picture nightmares are made of. He was fired for loving Buffy…as a daughter!!! That just gives my the jibblies!

    18. somethingblue says:

True story, and I thought everyone here already knew I had (as Clem would say) issuuuueesss. We had to cut the snake in two, it was a flat ended shovel and the snake was scaring the customers (although I think our snake slaying probably scared them more!)

    19. slightlyembarrased says:

I knew that would be upsetting, Abby..hence, I said it….I like to be unsettling.

    20. Abby M. says:

You are quite good at it.

    21. slightlyembarrased says:

      *blushes* Aw shucks, thanks….

Boy, at this rate, I might catch up with Mairce…I used to rule this trivia guide. But alas, summer ended and I had to spend most my time doing school instead of posting non-stop. But now, it is my nondenominational winter solisce holiday break and I’m back!

    23. slightlyembarrased says:

“it is my nondenominational winter solisce holiday break”

You know what I love about this time of the year? All the nondenominational winter solisce holiday break carols….

    24. Abby M. says:

Yeah, me too! I love personally love “Have a Holly Jolly Nondenominational Winter Solisce Holiday!” Rolls right of the tongue.

    25. slightlyembarrased says:

I’m partial to “I’ll Be Home for Nondenominational Winter Solistice Holiday Break”…and the Sinatra version.

    26. Abby M. says:

Yes, your taste is exqusite. You might want to consider a career in rapping if you can properly sing “The Twelve Days of Nondenominational Winter Solistce Holiday” in time.

    27. beagle says:

Giles killed Ben because he is relentlessly pragmatic. Unlike Buffy, who leads with her feelings. Thus the Buffy / Giles debate on offing Dawn. Their strength is their love and acceptance for each other…. usually
