You’ve got to laugh

David Fury mentioned in his DVD commentary for Real Me how uncomfortable Sarah Michelle Gellar feels with laughing on screen, seen in Real Me when Buffy laughs at the thought of Harmony having minions. We also see it when she laughs with Giles in the episode Grave. Fury says, “it’s hard to seem spontaneous” when ‘acting’ laughing.

      Yes, I act a little in the teaters too and laughing is the hardest thing really!
      It often sound weird and giggily.

      But I think she does it great, especielly in real me.
      I sometimes tries to do the scene where she lagues about Harmony, ad it turns out pancake.. :P NOT Goood

      I think it’s in Joss Whedon’s commentary for Restless that he mentions that to get SMG laughing spontaneously he started making funny faces behind the camera without warning her.
