Dusting vampires

When vampires are killed (via wooden stakes, sunlight or beheading), they turn to dust. The Scoobies use the word as a verb to describe killing a vampire (i.e. “We dusted him”). The first person to use the word in this way on the show was Buffy in The Harvest, “So, I dust anyone sporting that symbol, and no Harvest”.
‘Dusting’ a vampire using computer graphics cost $5,000 per vampire.

:O $5,000, wow they must have had a considerable budget for those episodes then. i would never have thought that iw ould be that much to make that effect. although i am unfarmiliar with television show budgets

I never thought it would be trhat much either! I just thought it’d be a computer graphic that would cost…well…nothing. I though if you had the technology, then you could just do it all anyway.

Does anyone know why it costs money?
