In Doublemeat Palace, Spike told Buffy he could get her money to stop her working at the fast food restaurant. Selling the Tsuvolti eggs (seen in As You Were) may have been his way of supporting her as Riley says that the eggs are worth a lot of money. |

I think that line “I can get money” was just fantastic. It’s one of my favorite moments of season six in fact. It’s just such a perfect scummy-self-destructive boyfriend thing to say. He cared for her, but he still wasn’t a very good person (I love Spike, but you have to agree with me that he was still a demon), and it was so well acted, the scene makes me feel total sympathy to the characters.

Did the writers ever reveal in any interviews/commentary where this whole demon egg “the Doctor” story line came from? Was Spike really the doctor? What were they thinking?

It would make sence that he calls himself the doctor. He was genuinly guilty about letting buffy die in The Gift, and the person who allowed that to happen (who he could have stopped) was Doc. Could be he took his name out of guilt, to remind him that he had killed Buffy (in his mind).

I really doubt that Spike came up with that name out of guilt. I think that the reason he came up with this lame name is because it’s a lame episode (I mean, how else do you explain Riley’s wife?).
