In “The Initiative” (4-07), when Spike is in Willow’s room and the Initiative burst in and the big fight ensues, Spike is clearly fighting them off. The most blaintant part of the goof is when Spike uses the fire extinguisher to hit one of them in the head, and his chip didn’t go off. |

That’s wierd, because in a later episode he couldn’t even point a toy gun in Xander and Anya’s direction. Maybe the chip progresses as the season goes on? Still, it’s a pretty big mistake.

Maybe it went off and he just ignored it like he he does in season 6 sometimes?

I don’t think Spike could ignore the chip, because the first time it goes off he seems pretty surprised. And unable to continue with his acts of violence.
