Faith

Faith

Faith was chosen as a vampire slayer when Kendra died. She was tough, sexy and flirtatious and she and Buffy immediately found conflict with each other (Faith, Hope and Trick). Faith spent some time helping Buffy in her slaying work but felt overshadowed by the older slayer and became jealous of her. Faith accidentally killed a man, and realised that she had a dark streak. She teamed up with the Mayor, who was plotting an evil ascension and became the direct enemy of Buffy (Consequences). Faith poisoned Angel, and Buffy discovered the only cure was for him to drink the blood of a slayer. She and Faith fought and Buffy stabbed her nemesis, putting Faith in a coma (Graduation Day (Part 1)). When Faith awoke she found the world a changed place (This Year’s Girl). She left Sunnydale and went to L.A. where she eventually redeemed herself and went to prison to serve time for her murders. Faith was broken out of prison to aid Wesley against Angelus, before heading to Sunnydale to help Buffy fight the First.
Faith’s surname was never mentioned onscreen but the Watcher Sourcebook claims it is Lehane.

    1. James says:

      Meh.

      I prefered Kendra.

    2. Abby M. says:

When Kendra was first introduced, I couldn’t stand her. By the time I started to like her, Dru killed her so, damn.

    3. MagicBone says:

Isn’t Faith’s last name supposed to be Lehane? what about Kendra…..and Spike?

    4. NotFadeAway says:

I don’t see why Faith is listed as having a last name, since it was never mentioned on either show. Just because Joss Whedon mentioned it in an interview doesn’t matter since it was not mentioned during any episode of the show.

    5. Jess says:

NotFadeAway and MagicBone - Joss said in January 2005 that they chose the name Lehane as they needed a surname for Faith in a role-playing game or something (read his comments here). I agree with NotFadeAway that it wasn’t mentioned on the show so isn’t really her name, but added it to the site as trivia anyway.

    6. NotFadeAway says:

Thanks for that information Jess. I’ve wondered why she had a last name listed here, and now I know (even thought I still don’t think that that’s really her name.)

    7. slightlyembarrased says:

Clearly the producers of the show considered Faith a “recurring character” and not a “main character”, in that in no season was Faith ever featured during the theme song, but always during the roll of credits over the first act intro following the theme music.

    8. somethingblue says:

I feel that any trivia or information provided by the show creator and writers is valid trivia. JK Rowling has entire character outlines with detailed histories in her original notes that never make it into the Harry Potter books, but are still true of the characters in her mind. I love this additional information, even maybe a little more because it wasn’t part of the original show, but an “inside” bit from Whedon himself. I say that’s way cool trivia.

    9. TwoToGo-Grave says:

While I understand your take on this, somethingblue, I must disagree. I am sure that the writers came up with several ideas that they chose not to use, for some reason or another, but this does not mean that these things actually took place on the show, or that they serve as valid information for the series. Ideas that they thought about are different than ideas that they thought enough of (as compared to something that may have been either not good enough or not important enough to make it onto the show) to incorporate into the series in some way. As far as the the subject of Faith’s last name goes, the makers did have the final five episodes with her (including a warrant for her arrest, which would have been a potentially good time if they wanted to add a last name for the character) to give her a last name, and they didn’t. Clearly, it either wasn’t desirable or wasn’t important enough to the writers to provide a last name to the character. That is just one opinion, however.

    10. MagicBone says:

I bought these bracelets, like the Lance Amrstrong ones only pink, green and orange, and they say faith, hope and joy and I wrote TRICK w/ a permanent marker on the joy one but sadly it rubbed off. In 10 minutes.

    11. slightlyembarrased says:

“hope”….Scott Hope…that little weasel…Why Buffy would have given that weenie the time of day is beyond me….

    12. The_True_Xander says:

I just realised that Faith was in exactly one season of Buffy. It seemed like way longer than that to me, but there you go.

    13. Jess says:

She was in seasons 3, 4 and 7.

    14. The_True_Xander says:

I know, I meant that in total she’s been in 22 episodes. I think that’s a whole season.

    15. MagicBone says:

She was only on 6 episodes of Angel, too.

    16. TwoToGo-Grave says:

I know, I meant that in total she’s been in 22 episodes. I think that’s a whole season.

I counted only 20. They are:
      season 3: episodes 3,4,5,7,10,13,14,15,16,17,19,21,22
      season 4: episode
      15,16
      season 7: episodes
      18,19,20,21,22

Am I missing something, because that only comes to twenty, I think.
